VERB TO BE:
pasado.

Interrogative (Interrogativo)
Nota: En preguntas con el verbo “to be”, el sujeto y el verbo cambian posiciones.
Presente Simple
Am I?
¿Yo soy/estoy?
Are you?
¿Tu eres/estás?
Is he?
¿El es/está?
Is she?
¿Ella es/está?
Is it?
¿Es/está?
Are we?
¿Nosotros somos/estamos?
Are they?
¿Ellos son/están?
Uses (Usos)
Ejemplos:
Con un sustantivo:
I am a teacher.(Soy profesor.)
Is he a doctor?( Él es médico?)
Con un adjetivo:
We are happy.(Nosotros estamos contentos.)
3. Para mostrar que algo existe, combinamos “is” o “are” con la palabra “there”. Ver la lección
de There Be para más información.

simple.
fast (rápido), hard (duro), smart (listo), pretty (bonito),
clean (limpio), large (grande), small (pequeño), old (viejo),
easy (fácil)…
Ejemplos:
Juan runs fast.(Juan corre rápido.)
I am tall.(Soy alto.)
EL GRADO COMPARATIVO
Ejemplos:
Juan runs faster than Mark.(Juan corre más rápido que Mark.)
Angela’s room is cleaner than Sue’s.(La habitación de Angela está más limpia que la de
Sue.)
New York is bigger than Los Angeles.(Nueva York es más grande que Los Angeles.)
conjunciones “not as…as” or “less…than”.
Mark is not as fast as Juan.(Mark no corre tan rápido como Juan.)
Sue’s room is less clean than Angela’s.(La habitación de Sue no es tan limpia como la de
Angela.)
Sue’s room is as clean as Angela’s.(La habitación de Sue es tan limpia como la de Angela.)
Los Angeles is as big as New York.(Los Angeles es tan grande como Nueva York.)
Nota: Podemos modificar un comparativo con un cuantificador (much, a lot, a little, slightly…).
Ejemplos:
Juan is a lot faster than Mark.(Juan corre mucho más rápido que Mark.)
EL GRADO SUPERLATIVO
Ejemplos:
Juan is the fastest .(Juan es el más rápido.)
New York is the biggest city in the United States.(Nueva York es la ciudad más grande de los
Estados Unidos.)
Además, no se usa “the” si comparamos algo
con si mismo.
Ejemplos:
His smartest student is Lisa.(Su estudiante más lista es Lisa.)
FORM (FORMA)
superlativa.
Ejemplos:
Extremos
freezing(helado)
excellent(excelente)
Absolutos
dead(muerto)
unique(único)
Clasificación
married(casado
domestic(doméstico)
EXAMPLES:
Adjectives with Irregular Forms
There are a few adjectives that have irregular forms when made into comparative or superlative
adjectives. With these, you don't add an -er or -est, and they don't include the words "more" or
"most." In some cases, a whole new word is used. These irregular forms just have to be memorized.
The examples in the printable above still follow the format of initial adjective, comparative adjective,
and superlative adjective, as in good, better, best.
Now that we know how to identify comparative and superlative adjectives, let's see them in action.
Here is a list of sentences making comparisons between two things:
Of course, there are times when we take things up a notch and compare three or more items. There
will also be times when we compare one thing against the rest of a group. Here are some examples
of superlative adjectives in action:
MORE EXAMPLES:
COMPARATIVE
1. Today is colder than yerterday. (Hoy hace más frío que ayer)
2. China is bigger than Italy. (China es más grande que Italia)

5. I stayed longer than I expected.
6. My car is newer than yours.
7. His house is bigger than mine.
8. Tea is cheaper than champagne.
9. We are smarter than they. (Nosotros somos más inteligentes que ellos)
10. I am taller than my bothers. (Yo soy más alto que mis hermanos)

LECTURA N°01
SEMANA 4
(4 HORAS)
CONTENIDO
A. FORMA AFIRMATIVA
TO PLAY: JUGAR
I play Yo juego
You play Tu juegas
He plays El juega
She plays Ella juega
It plays Eso juega
We play Nosotros jugamos
You play Vosotros jugáis
They play Ellos juegan
I Kiss Yo beso
I watch Yo veo
I do Yo hago

Veamos
ahora unos ejemplos:
I am studying for my exam – Estoy estudiando para mi examen
I am cleaning the house – Estoy limpiando la casa
Robert is driving to the supermarket – Robert está manejando al supermercado
The mechanic is fixing our car – El mecánico está arreglando nuestro carro
STRUCTURE (ESTRUCTURA)
You are listening to music You are not listening to music Are you listening to music?
She is listening to music She is not listening to music Is she listening to music?
We are listening to music We are not listening to music Are we listening to music?
They are listening to music They are not listening to music Are they listening to music?
Reglas
–ing.
Ejemplo: I am seeing my lawyer next Monday.
Excepciones
no suelen tener terminación -ing.
Estados emocionales o mentales, sensaciones, comunicación y
otros. En este cuadro podrás encontrar algunos ejemplos:
Stative verbs
Own (tener)
Possess (poseer)
EJEMPLOS:
Acciones que están ocurriendo ahora:
We are having lunch.
(Estamos almorzando.)
We are moving to Packard Street this week.
Usually I work in an office, but this month I am traveling from place to place.

EXTRANJERA simple past of the verb to be
estuve / era / estaba, tú fuiste / estuviste / eras / estabas, etc.).
infinitivo “be”.
pasado.
sujeto.
necesidades, como por ejemplo “sujeto + was o were + adjetivo + to + infinitivo”:
-It was great to visit the Art Gallery (Fue estupendo visitar el Museo de Arte).
-It was exciting to go on the Roller Coaster ride (Fue emocionante montarnos en la montaña rusa).
-The children were happy to meet new friends at their new school (Los niños estaban felices por hacer nuevos amigos en
-Look at that house over there. It was mine! I sold it last year (¡Mira esa casa de ahí! ¡Era mía! ¡La vendí el año pasado!).
-She was a teacher for ten years (Fue profesora durante diez años).
-How much was the pizza? It was €18! (¿Cuánto costó la pizza? ¡Fueron 18 €!).
También podemos hablar de la existencia de algo en el pasado usando “there was” (en singular) y “there were” (para el
plural), con el sentido de “haber”. Así, podríamos describir nuestro barrio diciendo:
-When I was younger there were fewer cars in the streets and in my street there was only one small shop (Cuando
