REVIEW
I. EXPLORING TIME:
1.1 Read the next information and underline the main ideas.
What is sound?
Sound is a form of energy that comes from objects that vibrate. To vibrate is to move back
and forth quickly. All sounds begin when something vibrates. A guitar string vibrates when you
pluck it. This makes sound waves. The sound waves move through the air. You hear the sound
when the sound waves reach your ear.
Página 5 de 14
Sound waves move through matter. Sound does not travel at the same speed through all mater.
Sound moves slowest through a gas medium, such as air. Sound moves faster through a liquid
medium. Sound moves fastest through a solid medium.
1.2 According to the text, use the following magic box to locate the words with their
respective picture: 5
1.3 Use the following words in the box to complete the spider maps about sounds in the street
and sounds in the nature (don´t forget write and draw the sound source. Look the example.
Police siren, rain, drill, thunder, engine, howl´s wolf, woofer, lion´s roar.

II. INFORMATION:
2.1 Read the following text about the sound and underline the main ideas with a green color.
Sound is a kind of energy that moves in waves through air, liquids and solids. Sound waves are
different when the sound is loud, soft, high or low.
The loudness of sound is called volume. The highness or lowness of a sound is called pitch.
Sound waves: Sound is a type of mechanical wave made by vibrations. When any objects vibrate,
it causes movement in the medium´s particles (gas, solid, or
liquid). This movement is called, sound waves. The particles of
solids, liquids and gases vibrate differently. In a solid, the
particles are closer together, so the vibrations can be passed
from one particle to another more quickly than they can in a
liquid or a gas.6
A mechanical wave is a type of wave that requires a medium for propagation. This is why
sounds does not travel in empty space.
Sounds can have different volumes. Volume is how loud or how soft a sound is. A flying plane is
louder than a chirping bird.
Loud sounds vibrate with more energy. Tap your foot on the floor. Now stomp your foot.
Stomping makes bigger vibrations. Sounds can have different pitches. Pitch is how high or low
a sound is. A squeaking mouse has a high pitch. A croaking bullfrog has a low pitch. Fast
vibrations make a high pitch. Slow vibrations make a low pitch.

3.1 Write T (True) or F (False) for the following statements:
3.2 Follow the teacher instructions, listen the sounds and identify the volume (loud or soft).
Write the answer in your notebook. Look at the example:
The first sound is the wind. It is soft.
