2. INTRODUCCIÓN
En esta guía 03, se trabajará en la relación contextual comunicativa que hay entre dos tiempos gramaticales,
estos son el pasado simple y el pasado continuo
3. CONCEPTUALIZACIÓN
¿Qué Tienen en Especial estos Tiempos Gramaticales?
Debemos recordar que cada tiempo tiene una función y característica dentro del contexto educativo, y es lo
más importante “el contexto”; vamos a ver un resumen de cada tiempo.

PASADO SIMPLE

Es un tiempo muy completo, pues el pasado simple es supremamente específico en cuanto a la descripción de
los eventos, entrega detallada de personajes y momentos específicos de la acción.

 The Tour of France started in Niza last August 29th.


 The quarantine in Colombia finished last September 1st.
 86 cyclists fell down due the slippery floor in the Tour of
France first stage.

PASADO CONTINUO / PROGRESIVO

El "Past Continuous" describe acciones o eventos situados en un tiempo anterior al presente, cuyo comienzo
se sitúa en el pasado y que todavía no ha concluido en el momento de hablar. Dicho de otro modo, expresa
una acción incompleta o inconclusa del pasado.

 They were waiting for the bus when started to rain.


 My father was watching the Tour of France when the
electricity stopped.
 While my father was watching the Tour of France, I was
doing the math homework.
 I was playing soccer when the accident happened in the
park.

El Pasado Continuo tiene como característica fundamental dos elementos importantes, estos son:

El verbo "Be":
Was Esta presente en las (3) formas [+, -, ?]
Were WAS: I - HE - SHE - IT
WERE: YOU - WE -THEY
Auxiliar
La Conjugación
Verbo + "-ing" los verbos según la terminación se
les agrega la terminación "-ing"

USO CONTEXTUAL: PALABRAS CLAVE EN ORACIONES COMPUESTAS

En oraciones compuestas se puede encontrar dos (2) “coordinators”, conector o palabras clave, con ellas se
puede determinar cuál de los dos tiempos gramaticales usar.

CLUE WORDS EXAMPLES


 When (Cuando) = Pasado Simple a) When the phone rang, I was sleeping.
 While (Mientras que) = Pasado Continuo b) The phone rang while I was sleeping.

Cuando dos (2) acciones están en progreso preparing the meal.
