2. PRESENTACION

El inglés es considerado actualmente el idioma más importante a nivel mundial, ya sea para aquellos que lo hablan
como primera lengua o aquellos que lo hablan como segunda lengua, es decir como lengua secundaria luego de la
lengua maternal. Si bien los angloparlantes de tipo nativo (aquellos que lo hablan como
lengua oficial del país en el que nacieron) no son tantos como los de otros idiomas tales
como el español o el chino, el inglés gana absolutamente toda batalla cuando se habla de
personas que hablan o dominan el inglés como segunda lengua. Hoy en día es esencial
capacitarse en el nivel de inglés no sólo por cuestiones laborales (contar con un buen nivel
de inglés es sin duda alguna una buena puerta de ingreso a mejores puestos laborales) sino
también para comunicarse, para poder acceder a mayor conocimiento e información, para
estar actualizado, etc.

PRESENT CONTINUOS

Present continuous, también llamado  present progressive  o  -ing form, es la forma continua del presente en
inglés. Se asemeja al uso del gerundio en español. Se utiliza principalmente para expresar acciones que
están teniendo lugar en el momento del habla o que tienen una validez temporal. También puede
emplearse con valor de futuro cercano para planes o intenciones. Se forma con el presente del verbo be y
el gerundio del verbo principal.

-Uso:

El Present Continuous se emplea en inglés para expresar:

 Sucesos que tienen lugar en el momento del habla;

Ejemplo: Look! James is taking a picture of another tourist.

 Planes o citas programados para un futuro cercano;

Ejemplo: He is meeting his friend Brad tonight.

 Acciones temporales;
Ejemplo: James is travelling around Australia.
Brad is working there as a tour guide over the summer.

 Sucesos actuales;
Ejemplo: He is staying at a youth hostel.

 Situaciones que indican evolución o cambio.

Ejemplo: The town is becoming more and more popular because of its beautiful beaches.

-Reglas:

Para formar el gerundio de un verbo en inglés tan solo hay que añadir la terminación -ing al infinitivo, sin
necesidad de modificar la ortografía de la palabra. Sin embargo, existen algunas excepciones:

◦ Cuando el verbo termina en consonante precedida de una sola vocal, la consonante última se
duplica y luego se agrega ing.

◦ Cuando el verbo termina en '-e' muda, ésta desaparece al formar el gerundio.

◦ Cuando el infinitivo termina en 'ie' cambia a 'y' + 'ing‘.

PRESENT SIMPLE

 Ejemplo: Angélica lee muchos libros.

Sujeto: Angélica
Verbo: Lee
Complemento: muchos libros

En español identificamos los verbos en infinitivo porque tienen las terminaciones “ar, er, ir”. Ejemplo: nadar,
comer, reír, etc. En inglés identificamos los verbos en infinitivo porque están acompañados de la partícula
“to”. Ejemplo: To swin (nadar), to eat (comer), to laugh (reir), etc.

 Jugar: TO PLAY (al conjugarlo suprimimos la partícula “to”, que indicaba que estaba en infinitivo):

El presente simple, lo empleamos para hablar de actividades que se realizan habitualmente (yo me
despierto temprano en la mañana, desayuno, tomo un baño, etc.) o situaciones usuales que no cambian
con el paso del tiempo (el sol alumbra, la tierra gira alrededor del sol, etc.)

En las terceras personas del singular, la terminación del verbo tiene un pequeño cambio:

RULES:
Recuerde que la palabra IRREGULAR, hace referencia a aquellos que no se ajustan o cumplen la regla
que se aplica para la mayoría.
 Se agrega S al final del verbo. Esta es la regla general para terceras personas del singular en
presente simple.
Trabajar = to work Ella trabaja = She works.
Comer = to eat Él come = He eats.
Saltar = to jump El conejo salta = The rabbit jumps.

 Si el verbo termina en s – sh – ch – ss – x – z – o; se agrega la terminación es.

Pasar = to pass Ella pasa = She passes

Lavar = to wash Él lava = He washes

 Si el verbo termina en y, precedida de consonante, se cambia la y por la terminación ies. (si antes
hay vocal, se aplica la regla general, es decir, se agrega s):

Estudiar= to study Ella estudia = She studies

Llorar = to cry El bebé llora = The baby cries

Si el verbo finaliza con Y pero antecede una vocal, solo agregamos S
