Resumen: La actividad de la GGT se localiza en los tejidos del hígado, los riñones y el

páncreas. La mayor concentración de GGT se encuentra en el riñón y el páncreas, seguida

por el hígado. La GGT tiene múltiples funciones, incluida la transferencia catalítica de

grupos γ-glutamil a aminoácidos y péptidos cortos, y la hidrólisis de GSH a un resto

gamma-glutamil y cisteinilglicina en el catabolismo de GSH y conjugado de GSH. La

actividad de GGT en suero es un marcador de daño hepatobiliar,

especialmente colestasis y efecto biliar, aunque no solo se expresa en hígado sino también

en riñón, páncreas y vías biliares.

Abstract: GGT activity is localized to the tissues of the liver, kidneys, and pancreas. The

highest concentration of GGT is found in the kidney and pancreas, followed by the liver.

GGT has multiple functions, including the catalytic transfer of γ-glutamyl groups to

amino acids and short peptides, and the hydrolysis of GSH to a gamma-glutamyl moiety

and cysteinylglycine in the catabolism of GSH and GSH conjugate. GGT activity in

serum is a marker of hepatobiliary damage, especially cholestasis and biliary effect,

although it is not only expressed in the liver but also in the kidney, pancreas and biliary

tract.

La gamma-glutamil transferasa
(GGT)
Es una enzima que se encuentra en
muchos órganos del cuerpo (11), con las
concentraciones más altas en el
hígado. La GGT está elevada en la
sangre en la mayoría de las
enfermedades que causan daño al hígado
o a las vías biliares (12). Esta prueba
mide el nivel de GGT en una muestra de
sangre (13).
Normalmente, la GGT está presente en
niveles bajos, pero cuando el hígado está
lesionado (14), el nivel de GGT puede
aumentar (15). La GGT suele ser la
primera enzima hepática que se eleva en
la sangre cuando cualquiera de los
conductos biliares que transportan la
bilis desde el hígado hasta los intestinos
se obstruye, por ejemplo, por tumores o
cálculos (16)(17)(18). Esto la convierte
en la prueba de enzimas hepáticas más
sensible para detectar problemas en las
vías biliares (19)(20).
Rango normal de GGT
El rango normal para la gamma-glutamil
transferasa (GGT) varía de un
laboratorio a otro (21)(22). Un rango de
referencia común para adultos es de 5 a
40 U/L (23)(24)(25).
Es importante tener en cuenta que los
niveles de GGT son, en promedio, algo
más altos en los hombres que en las
mujeres (26)(27). Si tiene un resultado
de prueba de GGT bajo o normal (28), es
poco probable que tenga una enfermedad
hepática o que haya consumido alcohol
(29)(30).
Prueba de gamma-glutamil
transpeptidasa (GGT)
Esta mide la cantidad de la enzima GGT
en la sangre (31). Las enzimas son
