Abstract
In this report we will present some properties of the reactions of alcohols, phenols and ethers, the
respective tests of solubility, solubility in alkaline medium, reaction with metallic sodium, and
the lucas test were performed. With which it is possible to differentiate from other functional
groups. In addition the solubility of four alcohols (Ethanol, n-Butanol, t-Butanol, Cyclohexanol)
was determined, both in the presence of water, alkaline medium, and the luca test. Likewise, the
order of reactivity of three alcohols (primary, secondary and tertiary) in the presence of metallic
sodium and the behavior of the phenols in alkaline medium were evaluated. With the results
obtained, it was shown that the alcohols react depending on the degree of substitution and that
β-naphthol behaves like acid in the presence of alkaline solution.
