4. Fundamentación:
Por un lado, Timeo se presenta con una riqueza única, sea en la extensión del “monólogo” del
personaje homónico de la obra, sea en los contenidos por los cuales estructura su discurso. En
efecto, su plan y proyecto es ofrecer un “discurso verosímil” por el cual se llegue a explicar el
origen y las determinaciones del universo. Al mismo tiempo, la finalidad de su discursó es
dilucidar cuál es el lugar del hombre en el cosmos y cuáles son los caminos para la
investigación y la transformación ética por los cuales el individuo lluegue vivir conforme a la
justicia y armonía divina. Por otro, el Critias, es un diálogo que, aunque, conservamos
fragmentariamente, es uno de los primeros registros del mito de la Atlántida como unidad
política ordenada. En efecto, en él, leemos una detallada descripción de la organización social
de sus ciudadanos y sus instituciones. Sobre el final de este diálogo, Critias relata cuáles habrían
sido la causa de corrupción y declive de la Atlántida. La relevancia este discurso consistiría,
entonces, en la rememoración de un mito, que sirve para sentar las bases a tener en cuentan para
responder la cuestión sobre la organización correcta del cuerpo político, cuáles debería ser su
organización y cuidados, sumado a la atención de la formación de sus ciudadanos.
Así, resulta tan interesante como relevante aventurarse en la lectura de Timeo-Critias, para
abordar las modificaciones del pensamiento platónico en sus últimas etapas, y en particular, en
las que atañen a sus inquietudes políticas para responder a ciertas cuestiones, tales como ¿cuáles
son las condiciones, bases y exigencias para el devenir de un cuerpo político ideal? ¿Cuál es la
relación del filósofo respecto del poder político? ¿Cuáles son los límites y posibilidades del
discurso filosófico para la investigación? A estas preguntas, entre otras, Platón se anima, al
menos, a sentar las bases para su aproximación en el campo filosófico.
4. Objetivos:
• Ofrecer las herramientas básicas para el tratamiento de las fuentes antiguas, especialmente de
las platónicas.
• Decodificar y presentar el estilo, género y léxico propios de estos diálogo para establecer su
importancia para la historia de la filosofía.
• Que logre identificar la relación y consistencias que se trema entre las cavilaciones físicas y
compromisos ontológicos con sus repercusiones ético-políticas;
• Que se acerque a la riqueza y variedad discursiva que concurren a la obra platónica: mitos,
alegorías, razonamientos discursivos.

La reflexión sobre lo político es una constante en la obra de Platón. Ciertamente, sus esfuerzos
por determinar las condiciones para el devenir de una ciudad ideal, justa y organizada, han
encontrado su expresión más concreta en diálogos como República o Leyes. Pero también el par
Timeo-Critias guarda notas originales que inauguran nuevos horizontes para continuar
filosofando. Por un lado, el relato cosmológico de Timeo invita a prestar atención a ciertas
cuestiones, tales como ¿cuál es la relación y conexión entre el orden divino y el cuidado y
conocimiento de sí mismo? ¿Y cómo esto guardaría relación para una reflexión y práctica
política? Y así, ¿cuál es la relevancia del modelo y orden del universo para organizar
correctamente la unidad política? Por otro lado, a pesar de su recepción fragmentaria, el Critias
nos ofrece el relato de un modelo de organización política ideal: el de la Atlántida. En esta obra,
se esbozan ciertos lineamientos de organización social e institucional en las que ciertas
reflexiones políticas Platón se hacen eco. Debido a su originalidad y riqueza filosófica, el curso
invita a una lectura juiciosa del par Timeo-Critias, en cuyas tramas filosóficas y discursivas el
pensamiento platónico de vejez es revitalizado con tremendo vigor.
