 Sistema respiratorio
El sistema respiratorio (neumología) se compone de las
vías aéreas y los pulmones, que aportan oxígeno a la
sangre para la respiración celular y eliminan de ella el
dióxido de carbono. El diafragma y la laringe controlan
el flujo de aire a través del sistema; en la laringe
también se producen sonidos, modificados después por
la lengua, los dientes y los labios para formar el habla.

Las vísceras cervicales están dispuestas en tres capas, denominadas según su función
principal (fig. 9-27). De superficial a profunda son:
1. La capa endocrina: las glándulas tiroides y paratiroides.
2. La capa respiratoria: la laringe y la tráquea.
3. La capa alimentaria: la faringe y el esófago.
