¿Quíen fue Kilpatrick?
William Heart Kilpatrick, nacido en 1871, en White Plains, Georgia en los
Estados Unidos. Fue un pedagogo estadounidense, representante del movimiento
pedagógico iniciado por John Dewey, de quien fue discípulo. Es conocido
especialmente por haber ideado y puesto en práctica el "método de proyectos". Este
método sitúa en el centro de la actividad escolar un plan de trabajo, elegido
libremente por los alumnos y organizado de manera que contribuya a superar el
esfuerzo individual y a requerir la colaboración de grupos de alumnos. Las nociones
y actividades prácticas están coordinadas alrededor de un núcleo de intereses que da
organización al saber. Kilpatrick insiste en la mayor validez de las motivaciones
subjetivas con respecto a la constricción indirectamente ejercida a través de premios
o castigos que llegan de fuera. Reconoce que las motivaciones de los niños escapan
casi por completo al educador. De ahí se deriva la necesidad de hacer hincapié en la
autoafirmación, a través de una intensa socialización de la escuela.
