PRESENTATION
This glossary was created with the purpose of knowing the terms that are used in
the professional career of psychology for better knowledge. Also, the glossary is
translated into Spanish and English, where it presents the main parts of a glossary
which are the grammatical category, phonetic transcription and the meaning of the
words. In addition, the glossary is accompanied by examples to better understand
the concept of the words.

DEFINITION: It is a general term to describe how someone consciously thinks, evaluates or perceives
themselves.

DEFINITION: Syndrome that includes cognitive loss and impairment, i.e., loss of daily
living, work, social and family functions (Custodio, et al;2018)
Example: The doctor in a psychological talk mentioned that dementia occurs more in the
elderly.

DEFINITION: It is a mental disorder characterized by low mental status and feelings of sadness
associated with changes in behavior, activity level and thoughts.

DEFINITION: The essential or permanent characteristic of things or the changes that occur in
the normal course of a process.
Example: No one understood Juan until his parents learned that he suffered from a
mental disorder.
Ejemplo: Nadie comprendía a Juan hasta que sus padres se enteraron que sufría de un
trastorno mental.

DEFINITION: It is a critical modulator of both learning and motivation and is involved in the
regulation of motor functions, mood and emotions (Berke, 2018).
Example: The psychology student learned that dopamine is a substance related to emotions.

Ego
DEFINITION: Because they are sensitive, they produce a sensation of pleasure when
stimulated. This is because many nerve endings accumulate in them.
DEFINICIÓN: Debido a que son sensibles, producen una sensación de placer cuando
se estimulan. Esto se debe a que en ellos se acumulan muchas terminaciones
nerviosas.
Example: My mother told me that we should not let the ego control our emotions.
Ejemplo: Mi madre me digo que no debemos dejar que el ego controle nuestras
emociones.

DEFINITION: Very general mental abilities that include the ability to reason, plan,
solve problems, think abstractly, understand complex ideas, learn quickly.

nervous system and different parts of the body.
Example: Sara was nervous when she was waiting for her test results.

DEFINITION: one of the most important systems of the human body, which has

SNP.

DEFINITION: It is a mental image formed with the help of experiences and needs,
resulting from a process of selection, organization and interpretation of sensations.

Personalidad
DEFINITION: These are individual differences that separate one person from
another. Likewise, personality is a term that describes and theoretically explains the
set of characteristics that an individual possesses, which characterizes him and
distinguishes him from others.
DEFINICIÓN: Estas son diferencias individuales que separan a una persona de otra.
Asimismo, personalidad es un término que describe y explica teóricamente el
conjunto de características que posee un individuo, que lo caracteriza y lo distingue
de los demás.

DEFINITION: To value oneself is the habitual way of thinking, loving, feeling and
behaving towards oneself.
Example: Most adolescents are aggressive because of a lack of control and self-esteem.

sencilla, ya sea física, mental o social.
Ejemplo: Los estudiantes de Rosa tienen una habilidad impresionante de resolver problemas
matemáticos.

DEFINITION: The space between the edge of a neuron and another cell. Nerve impulses are
usually carried to neighboring cells by chemicals called neurotransmitters.
DEFINICIÓN: El espacio entre el borde de una neurona y otra célula. Los impulsos nerviosos
generalmente son transportados a las células vecinas por sustancias químicas llamadas
neurotransmisores.
Example: The brain creates and eliminates synapses all the time.

DEFINITION: Something out of its natural state, situation or pattern; done by force, impulse
or against taste or will.
DEFINICIÓN: Es algo fuera de su estado, situación o patrón natural; hecho por fuerza,
impulso o contra el gusto o la voluntad.
Xenofobia
The glossary of psychological terms was developed in order to understand the terms
used in psychology. Also, this glossary has allowed us to know the definitions of the
words, knowing that the glossary is very important and useful to help us improve our
learning and knowledge where it is translated into English, so it is the most
recognized language.
CONCLUSIÓN
El glosario de los términos psicológicos fue desarrollo con el fin de entender los
términos usados en la psicología. Asimismo, el presente glosario nos ha permitido
conocer las definiciones de las palabras, sabiendo que el glosario es muy importante y
útil que nos ayuda a mejorar en nuestro aprendizaje y conocimiento en donde esta
traducido en inglés, por lo que es el idioma más reconocido.
