Introducción: En esta Guía, aprenderás a narrar hechos que ya han ocurrido en un momento en el
pasado pero que siguen teniendo una relevancia en el presente, dentro de la misma tematica haremos
hincapié en los verbos regulares e irregulares en sus pasados y participio pasado, al igual que de las
expresiones just, yet, already, since, for, never, ever and still.

Momento 2. Conceptualización

PRESENT PERFECT
This grammar tense is used to describe an action or situation that started in the past and
continues in the present.
Example: I have lived in Bristol since 1889 (he vivido en bristol desde…….)
Auxiliar: Have / has (he, han, Hemos, Han, Has, ha)

The Structures of Present Perfect


POSITIVE FORM (+):  

 Subject + auxiliar have /has+ verb in past participle + complement


 My boss has given me a good salary (mi jefe me ha dado un buen salario)

NEGATIVE FORM (-):

 Subject + auxiliar have /has+ not+ verb in past participle + complement


 My boss has not given me a good salary. (mi jefe no me ha dado un buen
salario)

Verb + infinitive
The gerund is the impersonal form of a verb (as are the verbs in the infinitive and in the
past participle), and this indicates that the action is happening, performing or carrying
out. The "gerund" in English is used regularly after numerous verbs and below, we share

Two words verbs

verb is a combination of a verb and an adverb or preposition, which has a
particular meaning,

 back [x] up: support or defend someone


When the class was making fun of me, only the teacher backed me up. 
 break down: stop working, especially when referring to machines
The ice cream machine at McDonald’s is always breaking down. 
 call around: contact multiple people
Roy called around to find a nearby mechanic.
 calm down: relax after an energetic or irritated state
I need a few minutes to calm down after that match.
 call [x] off: cancel
We called the party off. / We called off the party.
 check [x] out: verify a person or thing (can sometimes be flirtatious when used in
reference to a person)
I’ll check the contract out. / I’ll check out the contract. 
 clean up: be extremely successful in an endeavor, such as business, sports, or
gambling
Our hockey team cleaned up at the tournament and went home undefeated. 
 clean [x] up: clean a general area
John cleaned the living room up. / John cleaned up the living room.

Expressions: Yet, ever, never, already, just, since, for and still
We use "ever" in interrogative sentences:
a. Have you ever been to the United States?

We use "never" in affirmative sentences: but the meaning is negative.


a. I have never cheated in an exam.

We use "just" to express a recently completed action.


a. The cat has just caught a bird.

We use "already" to express that something has happened sooner than expected.


a. Don't forget to bring your book! Oh, I have already brought it.

We use "yet" in interrogative and negative sentences and it suggests a time later than
expected.
a. Have you done your homework? No, I haven't done it yet.

We use for to talk about a period of time: five minutes, two weeks, six years
I have studied English for 2 hours (he estudiado ingles por 2 horas)

We use since to talk about a point in past time: 9 o'clock, 1st January, Monday
They have traveled all over the world since they were little (Ellos han viajado por todo el
mundo desde que eran unos pequeños
