Hydraulic Wedge Lock (CW) Coupler (typical example)

The coupler system on a Next Generation Hydraulic Excavator can be set up to operate both styles of couplers that are commonly used, a
Hydraulic Pin Grabber Coupler and a Hydraulic Wedge Lock (CW) Coupler. The below information will provide an understanding of the settings and
the logic for the two basic couplers.

Quick Coupler Settings

Within the monitor, you will find the configurations for setting up a coupler with the latest software release:

Monitor Navigation: Apps Button >> Settings >> Service >> Configurations >> Machine Attachments

Quick Coupler (defines which coupler type you have installed on the machine)
Not Installed

Coupler without Accelerator – Hydraulic Pin Grabber Coupler

Coupler with Accelerator – Hydraulic Wedge Lock (CW) Coupler

Quick Coupler Operation (operator interface control for Hydraulic Wedge Lock (CW)
Coupler)
Note: Visible with "Coupler with Accelerator" setting

Hold to Run – Coupler switch is pressed and held for coupler operation

Alarm - Coupler switch is pressed and only Alarm sounds during coupler operation

Quick Coupler Auto Pressure Release (automatically releases pressure from the
auxiliary high pressure or tool control system utilizing the variable relief valves)
Enabled – Required for hydraulic connecting couplers

Disabled – Required for tools that are connected and use pressure to maintain the position of the tool, such as hydraulic thumb work tool

(1) Solenoid 1

(2) Solenoid 2

The coupler system contains two push pull solenoids for coupler LOCK and UNLOCK and a pressure reducing valve (PRV) to set the operating
pressure of the coupler.

The coupler system operation is different between the two coupler types based on the coupler settings. The coupler solenoids are activated
differently for LOCK and UNLOCK. The difference is a cylinder extension locks a pin grabber coupler and unlocks a wedge lock coupler. The
pressure setting of the proportional reducing valve has a low pressure setting for wedge lock and a high pressure setting for pin grabber. The
operator controls for both couplers are also different.

Coupler Configuration Setting: "Coupler without Accelerator"

Coupler PRV setting: Machine System pressure – Pressure Reducing Valve on the coupler valve is "lightly" seated.

Note: Pressure can be measured at port "A" at the valve or at the pressure supply line (red band) at the boom foot during coupler UNLOCK
operation

Required Operation: Coupler switch press and bucket stall for 5 seconds.

Note: To confirm operation of the quick coupler system solenoids 1 and 2, pressure can be measured at port "A" at the valve or at the pressure
supply line (red band) at the boom foot during coupler UNLOCK operation and return line (yellow band) at the boom foot during coupler LOCK
operation. Pressure should be above 27500 kPa (4000 psi). If the pressure is correct and the system seems to be operating correctly, then there
could be an issue with the coupler cylinder bypassing.
