WEEK 4: March 15th to 19th.

1.

Do you live in a big city? It is said that living in big cities

is expensive because of the high living cost. There are
also pollution and traffic problems that make living in
big cities unpleasant. Many big cities already have good
public transportation systems, which make it easy for
the citizens to go anywhere around the city. This also
reduces and helps overcome the problem of traffic jams
that often occur at peak times.

Staying healthy is everybody’s concern and in big cities

you can find the best possible medical care for any diseases. Reaching hospitals is also easier as
public transport is usually available 24 hours a day. Big cities like New York, Madrid, London and
Paris have vibrant nightlife. People can still find entertainment, dine out or go shopping into the
early hours.

Big cities also provide better education and health service. In addition, city life is more fun and
exciting because there is a wide range of entertainment to enjoy and a lot of social events to attend.

According to the text answer the following questions:

What would be the Title of the previous text?

My name is Albert. I live in a city in Villavicencio,
I live near to a supermarket at the right side is the
bakery and at the left is a butcher. next to the
butcher is a grocery store.
At the end of the street is a clothes shop, a

My sister always goes there with our dog Baby.
On Saturday there is an open market on the main square. Mum, my sister and I go there to buy fruits
and vegetables. After that we go to the fish shop to buy fish and meat. Not far away is a shop that
sells sporting goods. I love this shop because I can find the t-shirts of the soccer teams. If mum needs
some pills, we go to the pharmacy before we go to the dinner to meet dad.
While we shop, dad buys a newspaper at the newsagent in order to have something to do while he
is waiting for us.
In the afternoon we go to the department store. We pass the shoe shop Of course Mum and my
sister stop to look at the shoes in the window. Eventually we go to the pastry shop to buy our dessert
for Sunday.

Now you have read the Text, please answer the following Tasks

3. Drawing and write vocabulary of Villavicencio’s places.

TEXT 3: CULTURAL DIVERSITY

1. Complete the text with the words from the list below:

insult - - interest - impolite - intertwined.

A few years ago, a Japanese student I was tutoring shared an ……………….. cultural
experience with me. She had attended a dinner at an American friend's home. While he
was still preparing the dishes, some of the other friends began to eat. The problem was,
in her culture it's ……………….. to begin eating if your host hasn't started, so she sat there
waiting patiently for him. However, this made the host think that she didn't like the food
that he made. This is the difference between cultures. If we don't understand, then we
could possibly ……………….. people, even when we're not trying to be rude.
Although we're just learning English, it's also important to understand culture because culture
and language are very
much ………………...To learn
a language better,we
must become part of the
culture too!

Of course Chinese, French, and Korean aren't the only important cultures to know, but I'm
hoping the image above will show you that every culture has its own differences and you
should be aware when you travel abroad, meet new people, or do business. your culture,
is it OK to eat before your host eats?

Rúbrica

Knowing how to be

English: Identity is very important and is closely related to our roots. Therefore, before exploring
the world, we must take some time to remember what our origins are. For this activity you will
require all your creativity, recyclable material, family photos and consult a little about culture. You
are going to make a 4-sided frieze entirely in English; the first one is the cover, where you must put
the title "Footprints of my history" and you must be very creative to decorate it; in the second, you
must include the genealogical tree of your family, so we remember the associated vocabulary, use
your imagination to create it; in the third, you must make a mental map with images and keywords
related to the place where you were born and your culture; finally, on the fourth side, you are going
to make a collage with the places you like the most in the city where you live naming them one by
one.
donde debes poner el título "Footprints of my history"
relacionadas al lugar donde naciste y a tu cultura;
finalmente, en la cuarta cara, vas a hacer un collage con
los lugares que más te gustan de la ciudad donde vives nombrándolos uno a uno.

KNOWING TO KNOW
We have talked a lot about cities and the important place that each person has in them. So, now it is your
turn to assume a role in an ideal city, where each of you is a fundamental part. So that you can choose well
what your participation will be according to your interests, we are going to know a little about the
responsibilities and functions of some characters that exist within society.

LISTENING ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONS

EVERY RECORD HAS THE TRANSCRIPTION AND WE WILL SHARE THESE RECORDS BY WHATSAPP.

5. RECORD 1: POLICE
What would society be like without the police? They do a very
valuable job. Without them, our society would be less safe. The
police are the people we call when we are in danger or something
bad has happened. Even people who say they don’t like the police
will call them for help. I think being a police officer is an interesting
but risky job. Police officers must see lots of strange things every
day. I guess there is never a boring day in a police officer’s life. I
wanted to be a police officer once but decided it would be too
dangerous. I didn’t want to be in the middle of a riot or chase people
with guns. I think we must respect the police because they do a difficult job. It seems as though
their job is getting more difficult.

READING:
Who takes care of the maintenance of public order, the safety of citizens and
compliance with the laws.

Responsibilities:

1. Policeman must protect the life and integrity of citizens.

2. The police must promote the reduction of violence and the peaceful
resolution of conflicts.

RECORD 2: DOCTOR
Doctors are cool. They spend all their day helping people and saving
lives. There can’t be many better jobs in the world. I wanted to be a
doctor when I was a kid, but I was no good at science. I think doctors
are among the most important people in society. They should get
paid lots and lots of money. It’s not right that bankers get paid more.
Doctors are clever and very kind. They never seem to panic or get
angry. Every time I have seen a doctor, he or she has always made me
feel better – not just because of their treatment, but also because of
their kindness. It must be amazing being a doctor and knowing all
kinds of stuff about the human body. It would be useful being a
doctor because then you’d know what was wrong with your own body.

READING:

Who tries to maintain or recover people's health.

Responsibilities:

3. The doctor treats all patients equally, without distinction, always ensuring
physical integrity.

4. The doctor must prevent disease and promote healthy life.

5. The doctor must not lose humanism and must have respect for the situation of
each person.

RECORD 3: MAYOR
I often ask myself what politics is. When I turn on the television and
see politicians in action, I think it looks like a circus. A lot of the
politicians I see are like comedians. They lie, they steal money and get
involved in all kinds of scandals. Politics should be about serving the
people. This cannot happen when most of the people think most
politicians can’t do their job properly. I’ve always found it strange that
there are usually only two kinds of politics in most countries. You vote
for the Democrats or Republicans, the left or the right. Some countries
have a middle, but that’s still not a lot to vote for. I also think it’s
strange that most politicians do not focus on what the people want.
People want better health and education, not war.

READING The highest authority in city government.

Responsibilities:

6. The Mayor is the administrator and superior authority of the municipal

dependencies.

7. The Mayor issues the resolutions and execute the agreements approved by the
municipal council.

8. The mayor coordinates and serves as a link between the different state entities
and the citizens.

RECORD 4 : TEACHER

Education is one of the most important things in our lives. Don’t

you agree? It can make the difference between success and failure.
An education can bring us knowledge and make us rich. In rich
countries, people are lucky to have good schools. Children start
learning from a very young age. They can further their education
and go to higher education or university. In Japan, there are even
private schools for babies to learn English. It’s a shame that in many
rich countries, many children don’t want to learn. Perhaps schools
need to find better ways to teach so children want to learn. It’s sad
that in many parts of the world, children want to learn but can’t.
Make sure you never stop learning. Education is the key to a better future.

READING:
Who is dedicated by vocation to teach and to accompany the processes of reflection and
analysis.
Responsibilities:
● The teacher maintains and encourages communication between all members of the school
community.
● The teacher optimizes learning and fosters intellectual curiosity.
RECORD 5

BUSINESSMAN

Business isn’t so good at the moment. In fact, it’s the worst time for
businesses for decades. Many businesses are going bust because of
the global financial crisis. Even sound businesses like the car industry
and electronics are going through a really bad time. Many small
businesses have gone out of business. It’s a real shame because so
many lives are being ruined. With a lot of businesses, it’s a real fight
for survival. I really respect people for trying to make a go of their
business. I don’t have much business sense. I wouldn’t know where
to start in opening my own business. I suppose the best thing would
be to look at business startups on the Internet. An online business might be good. There seems to
be less risk.

READING
Who has vision, entrepreneurship and contributes to the society's development.

Responsibilities:

9. The businessman promotes creativity, confidence, and determination.

10. The businessman must protect and cultivate natural, material, and human
resources.
WEEK 13th to 14th
KNOWING TO INNOVATE

You have done so good, I am very proud of your Work, Now, it is time to demonstrate what you
learned during this time.
So, we are going to do two activities

1. First you will present a Quiz by Google Format. I will send you the link when the times arrives.
Please study the vocabulary, grammar, verbs and all we have seen.

6.

Now, it is time to create your “SCALE MODEL- CITY” You will show the city by a Video or during the
Encounter.
When you present the City, you must talk about the following Items.

● City’s name: _______________________________________

● In which country your city is located? ___________________________________
● How many people live in there? ________________________
● Think of people from different countries who lives in your city and mention
them________________________________________________________
