Guía #14. There is – There are

En castellano, las expresiones “there is” y “there are” (y sus formas en el pasado y
en el futuro), se utilizan diariamente para explicar hay algo o que existe algo en
algún lugar. Por ejemplo, en castellano, antes de hacernos la compra en el
supermercado, podemos preguntar “¿Hay leche en la nevera?”. En cambio en
la gramática de inglés, esta misma pregunta sería “IS THERE MILK IN THE
REFRIGERATOR?.

There is significa HAY en español y se usa para el singular.

There are significa HAY en español y lo utilizamos para el plural.

Por ejemplo…

Hay algo de café en la cocina. = There is some coffee in the kitchenHay dos personas
en el ascensor. = There are two people in the elevator.

La gran diferencia con el español es que en inglés diferenciamos entre there is en

singular y there are en plural.
