Existe una disregulación en los sistemas de neurotransmisores de GABA,
dopamina, noradernalina y serotonina.
No hay descrita una vía definitiva que explique la agitación y el comportamiento
agresivo.

Manejo y abordaje
- Detectar condiciones médicas severas.
- Personas con trastorno psicóticos o agitación
severa deben recibir tratamiento farmacológico.
- En caso de deterioro cognitivo, buscar información
en otras fuentes (amigos, familiares, cuidadores).
- Búsqueda intencionada de intoxicación aguda a
sustancias o abstinencia.
- Exámenes complementarios deben ser solicitados
tan pronto sea posible.
- Evaluación psiquiátrica adecuada una vez la
agitación ha remitido.

Desescalada verbal, representa la medida inicial para
el manejo de paciente agitado, incluye el uso de
habilidades de comunicación verbal y no verbal, con
finalidad de reducir o prevenir que aumente la
severidad de la agitación. Reduce el nivel de
ansiedad, tensión interna, así como el riesgo de lesión
del usuario y/o a terceros.

Se recomienda mantener una distancia de al menos dos brazos entre el usuario y
personal de salud, se debe de asegurar la seguridad de paciente y profesional de
salud, debe existir una salida libre.

Es importante mantener un lenguaje corporal
apropiado, la expresión facial debe ser calmada,
evitar el contacto visual sostenido (puede ser
interpretado como violento), las manos deben estar
visibles y las rodillas ligeramente dobladas.

Se debe iniciar presentándose a si mismo, se debe pedir al
usuario se presente, que diga como prefiere ser llamado.
Posteriormente se puede orientar al paciente acerca de
donde se encuentra, la finalidad de la atención y comunicar
