Presentation
This activity is adapted to keep working the necessary content of the “Understand written
and auditive texts in English” competency and to develop and evaluate the results
corresponding to these training days.

Esta actividad está adaptada para seguir trabajando el contenido necesario de la competencia
"Comprender textos en inglés de forma escritos y auditiva " y para desarrollar y evaluar los resultados
correspondientes a estos días de formación.

1 Read carefully the following information. (Lea cuidadosamente la

siguiente información)

 Personal details (Datos personales)

Identificar los datos personales básicos es útil a la hora de hablar de nosotros mismos y
nos permite apropiarnos del vocabulario básico para empezar conversaciones en
inglés. A continuación listamos los términos más comunes que podemos encontrar:

“Name” esta categoría se refiere al nombre, en cualquiera de sus formas. En primer lugar
es importante aclarar que los nombres propios NO cambian es decir se escriben y
pronuncian de la misma manera en que se hace en español.

 Full name (Nombre completo)

 First name (Primer nombre)
 Middle name (Es el segundo nombre en los nombres compuestos y también
incluye los demás nombres si son varios) Ejemplo, sí una persona se llama
“Mariana Alejandra Sofia Perez”, su “first name” es Mariana y su “middle name”
es Alejandra Sofia.
 Last name // Surname // Family name (Apellido)

“Age” (Edad)
“Date of birth” (Fecha de nacimiento) En formularios también es posible encontrar la
sigla “DOB”

“Place of birth” (Lugar de nacimiento) recuerde que los nombres propios no cambian.

“Nationality” (Nacionalidad) No es igual al país, consulte el glosario al final de la guía.

“Marital status” (Estado civil) puede ser “single” (soltero) o “married” (casado).

“Children” (Hijos)

“Telephone number” (Número de teléfono) recuerde que el sistema de números tanto

en inglés como en español es el arábigo. Al hablar en inglés se recomienda decir dígito
por dígito.

“e-mail” (correo electrónico)

 Personal information questions (preguntas de información personal)

Las preguntas de información personal son importantes cuando conoces a alguien por
primera vez. A continuación encontrará una serie de elementos que le permiten hacer
preguntas sencillas y ejemplos de las preguntas más comunes con respuestas cortas.

Question words

Who asks for a name or person ¿Quién?

Why asks for a reason ¿Por qué?

Where asks for a place ¿Dónde?

What asks about a thing or a concept ¿Qué? Ó ¿Cúal?*

Which asks about a thing ¿Cúal?**

When asks for a time ¿Cuando?

How asks about the way something happens ¿Cómo?

*Se usa cuando la respuesta es abierta.

**Se usa cuando la respuesta es cerrada entre una cantidad de opciones.

If there is no question word, the question starts with the auxiliary. The answer to a question
like this is “yes” or “no”. (sí las preguntas empiezan con un auxiliar las respuestas empiezan
por decir primero “si” o “no”)

In English we just use the question mark at the end of the question. (En inglés solo se usa
el signo de interrogación al final.)

Typical questions (Preguntas communes)

1. What is your name?

Give your first name then surname: “My name is Paola Ruiz” or “I am Paola Ruiz”.

2. What is your date of birth?

It’s day – month – year: “It’s the second of July, 1980”.

When you say the date, use cardinal numbers:

I am Wilson Quintero, I am 36 years old. I live in Fuente de Oro –

Meta. I live in a small house in the countryside. I live with my wife
and my 3 children. I wake up early every day, brush my teeth and
take a shower then I have breakfast with my family. In the morning I
work in the field, I take care of the crops and the animal. After
lunch, I go to buy groceries for my house and spend time with my
family. At 6 pm I go to study until 10 pm. I come back home to rest.
