INTRODUCCIÓN A LA UNIDAD

En esta primera Unidad “Inglés para la logística y comercio exterior” de la Actividad Curricular Inglés
de Soporte a la Informática, profundizaremos algunos contenidos aprendidos anteriormente y
conoceremos nuevos contenidos atingentes al área del transporte y logística Internacional.

El idioma inglés siempre estará presente en el área de la Logística. Si bien, en la actualidad la mayoría
de los programas, aplicaciones, etc., se encuentran en español, el vocabulario del área los
encontraremos en idioma inglés, aunque sin darnos cuenta se nos hacen tan familiares y les
asociamos casi automáticamente.

El Resultado de Aprendizaje a alcanzar en esta Unidad Temática es: Interpretar la información, líneas
y argumentos de un discurso oral, formal e informal, presencial o retransmitido, de una operación
logística internacional.

ACTIVIDAD INICIAL

La operación logística y el transporte internacional son fundamentales para que el proceso de la

comercialización de productos sea exitosa, todas las actividades que intervienen, garantizan el
traslado de mercancías entre destinos y para lograr el mejor resultado, debemos tener el
conocimiento de cada detalle en el idioma del inglés.

Road / Land transportation

It is the only mode capable of delivering door-to-door. It is very flexible and versatile and adapts to
all types of goods and traffic (from full cargo to parcels).

It is capable of carrying large loads over long distances. It is ecological but requires an infrastructure

multimodal transport in containers with maritime transport phase.

1.4 Semantic Merchandise Field

The semantic field is the group of words that share a meaning, trait, or activity in the same event.
We will see participation of several actors in different processes that may seem the same, but
they are not, especially goods and products for international transport area.

 Shipowner: A shipowner is someone who owns a ship or ships or who has shares in a
shipping company.
 Porter / Shipping agent: It is the goods’ transporter, there is a possibility that even the
shipowner himself performs this function.
 Consignee: The person performing the role of agent or carrier. It’s in charge of commercial
management for international transport of goods in each of the ports.
 Shipper: This is the person responsible for the shipment of the goods, either at the port of
origin or destination.
 Stevedore: It is the authorized worker who is responsible for ensuring that the goods can be
loaded and unloaded from the ships.
 Prepare the goods: Refers to packaging preparation and placement of goods at the initial
process of transport. It is important to mention that packaging must be accessible for
handling and inspection at customs by agents.
 Insure the goods: Hire insurance in order to avoid losses in case of the products are damaged
or deteriorated.
 Arrival at customs: take procedures into account when products/goods arrive to customs,
they will authorize the shipment.

Estimados Estudiantes, esta primera unidad ha sido bastante intensa, hemos tratado de

En primera instancia identificamos los conceptos básicos en la operación logística en el ámbito

del idioma de inglés, determinamos la cadena de gestión, identificando vocabulario e
identificando responsabilidades.
