 Presentation

The glossary presented below is intended for all nursing students. Its main objective is to provide the student
with a useful and easily accessible tool for the search of definitions and concepts most used by the profession in
the English language.

Below, we offer words that can be widely used by nursing students and other health professionals, and also by
teachers involved in their teaching and learning process.

El glosario que se presenta a continuación está destinado a todos los estudiantes de enfermería. Su principal
objetivo es proporcionar al estudiante una herramienta útil y de fácil acceso para la búsqueda de definiciones y
conceptos más utilizados por la profesión en lengua inglesa.
A continuación, ofrecemos palabras que pueden ser ampliamente utilizadas por los estudiantes de enfermería y
otros profesionales de la salud, así como por los profesores que participan en su proceso de enseñanza y
aprendizaje.

DEFINITION: An allergy is a reaction that is a set of respiratory alterations or itching that is exerted on the immune system towards
something that it does not tolerate.

DEFINICIÓN: Una alergia es una reacción que vienen a ser un conjunto de alteraciones respiratorias o escozor que se ejerce en el
sistema inmunitario hacia algo que no tolera.

EXAMPLE: Astrid is allergic to shellfish.

EJEMPLO: Astrid es alérgica a los mariscos.

ANESTESIA

DEFINITION: Loss of pain sensitivity after administration of anesthetic drugs.

DEFINICION: Perdida de la sensibilidad dolorosa tras administración de fármacos anestésicos.

EXAMPLE: They gave anesthesia to a patient who was going to be operated on, so that she would not be in pain.

AMNESIA

DEFINITION: Disorientation of memory in which the person does not remember who he/she is or what activities he/she performs.

DEFINICION: Desorientación de la memoria en la cual la persona no recuerda quien es o que actividades realiza.

EXAMPLE: My grandfather has amnesia caused by a fall.

EJEMPLO: Mi abuelo tienes amnesia ocasionado por una caída.

ANSIEDAD

DEFINITION: A feeling of anguish characterized by a state of extreme insecurity.

DEFINICION: Sentimiento de angustia caracterizado por un estado de extrema inseguridad.

EXAMPLE: Juana suffers from anxiety when it is her turn to exhibit.

EJEMPLO: Juana sufre de ansiedad cuando le toca exponer.

 Conclusions
The glossary is a dictionary of terms that provides all the information on a subject or science in alphabetical
order. As terms are entered, the system organizes the information, placing each term in the letter to which it
belongs. The user will be able to search for information more easily by the letter with which each term
begins. It will also serve as a support for all health professionals, allowing us to understand different terms in
English.
 Conclusión

El glosario es un diccionario de términos que permite disponer de toda la información sobre un tema o
ciencia en orden alfabético. A medida que se ven introduciendo términos, el sistema organiza la
información, colocando cada término en la letra a la que pertenece. El usuario podrá buscar con mayor
facilidad la información a través de la letra por la que comienza cada término. Asimismo, servirá de
apoyo a todos profesional de salud, y así nos permitiera entender diferentes términos en inglés.
