Developing solid planning and
procedure is a crucial first step in
getting your project off the ground…

We should always stick to a well-defined process when

creating a data model
…are data
Analysis and data
Analytics the same
concept?
Data analysis involves extracting meaning from data in a way that's useful to a
decision-maker…

Data analytics is broader in scope. It refers to the process of using data and analytical tools and
techniques to find new insights and make predictions, often for the benefit of an organization.
Data Analysis vs Data Analytics
What is data analytics
project?
Data analytics projects involve using statistical and
computational techniques to analyse large datasets
with the aim of uncovering patterns, trends, and
insights…
These projects can range from
…complex predictive modelling and
simple descriptive analysis machine learning algorithms
to more…
It’s never easy to determine where to start
data analytics projects…

Do you constantly confront several questions at the start of a
project, such as

• What are the project’s goals?

• How can I become more familiar with the information?
• What are the issues you’re attempting to address?
• What are the possibilities for a solution?
• What abilities are required?
• How will you assess your model, and most importantly, where will you
start?
Class Objectives

Importance of Planning a Project

“Doing the right project

vs.
Doing the project right”.

Project planning demands major attention to any other aspect of project

management.

In fact, it is the most important responsibility of any project manager.

First Stage of a Project
The reach and the organizations commitments are defined.

Limit the reach of the project based on assumptions.

SMART Objective

https://tribescale.com/es/blog/objetivos-smart-redactar-un-objetivo/
Reach of the Project

Another important element of project planning is the definition of the

Reach of the project.

The Reach of the project is important because it specifies:

What is included?
What is not included?
Intermediate goals.
Final products.
Clear reach, lasting friendships

Project Follow-up
Follow-up Concept

• We understand follow-up to be the

process by which project reports are
presented on the general state of
the project (physical advances and
costs), as well as the analysis and
solution of problems within the
project.

• Process by which a project is led

down the right path without straying
from what was planned.
Follow-up
• What is it?
• Draw up a plan, review the plan and
follow the plan.

• What is it not?
• Draw up a plan, ignore the plan.

WBS – Work
Breakdown
Structure
Now that we have seen the importance of
identifying the need for a project, and we
defined the Goals/Objective using SMART
we will move on to the second stage.

One of the planning tools is the Work

Breakdown Structure (WBS).
WBS
The WBS es is a hierarchy that starts with the final product or
products and shows how these can be divided into tasks or basic
work packages.

The final product or products (which represent the projects goal)

are indicated in the first level or the highest level of the WBS. The
following levels provide a detailed identification of the individual
tasks.

2. Draw up a Responsibilities Matrix, only include the person responsible for the activity
Gantt Chart
What is a Gantt
Chart?
A Gantt chart is a project management tool that
illustrates work completed over a period of time
in relation to the time planned for the work…
A Gantt chart can include the start and end dates
of tasks, milestones, dependencies between
tasks, assignees, and more.
Another planning tool
is the Responsibility
Matrix.
Responsibility Matrix

Method used to show, in a

tabular format, the people
responsible for the
activities of the project.

It is a tools that shows, on

paper, each persons
activities.

• Tool which allows a complete graphic vision of the most important
events throughout the project, facilitating the integration of its
objectives.

• This tool includes the dates of relevant repetitive events of the project,
such as: meetings, invoice paperwork, due dates, key events, report
due dates, etc.

• Tool developed during the planning stage and constantly updated

throughout the project.
Importance of Meetings
• They are an opportunity to :
o Meet other members of the project and create a
synergy within the team
o Favor the communication and the exchange of
ideas
o Share information
o Make a conjoined decision
o All are involved, are committed and are
accountable for the project
o Resolve conflicts and look for a better solution
o Provide follow-up for the project

Project Documentation
Importance of a Meeting Agenda
• It is common to see the following situations:

• “The meeting objective is not clear to anyone”

• “We don’t know what we’re supposed to do”
• “I didn’t know what information to bring to the
meeting”

• An agenda must be planned and distributed to

the participants at least 2 days before the
meeting.
