Esta es una herramienta para uso del área de promoción de Greenwich. Su propósito es ofrecer un servicio de diagnóstico
a potenciales instituciones usuarias del sello que deseen conocer el nivel aproximado de inglés de sus estudiantes al
inicio del año escolar1. Se trata de dos exámenes: uno para primaria y otro para secundaria, cuyos contenidos están
basados en los diferentes scope and sequence de los libros de Greenwich, alineados a su vez con los estándares del
Marco Común Europeo (MCE).
Se han diseñado dos versiones descargables (de calificación manual) independientes para primaria y dos para
secundaria, que pueden utilizarse en caso de que la institución-objetivo no cuente con la logística necesaria para llevar
a cabo la prueba en línea (equipos, conexión a Internet, horarios). Es recomendable, sin embargo, preferir esta última
una vez esté disponible, pues cuenta con una estructura diferente (en la mayoría de los casos más corta), aleatoriedad
de preguntas y calificación automática.
Importante: el MCE establece seis niveles de referencia que representan la progresión del aprendizaje de una lengua
extranjera (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 y C2). Los placement tests de Greenwich abarcan los niveles A1, A2 y B1, que son
los niveles que alcanzan nuestros programas (con excepción de Keynote, que en secundaria llega al B2).

2. Estructura y características


Cada placement test descargable consta de 60 preguntas, distribuidas en tres secciones, así:

1 Dado que es una evaluación diagnóstica, el placement test debe aplicarse solamente al comienzo de un período lectivo. En ningún caso se le debe utilizar como prueba de progreso, es
decir, para evaluar contenidos de libros ya en uso. Esa función la cumplen los tests desarrollados para las diferentes series.
2 Los tiempos son sugeridos. Dependiendo del contexto, la aplicación puede requerir más tiempo.

a. Language Use. Evalúa la habilidad para reconocer y usar correctamente el sistema formal del inglés en relación con
diferentes propósitos comunicativos.
b. Listening. Evalúa la habilidad para comprender el significado y uso de vocabulario y las estructuras básicas del inglés en
distintas situaciones acordes con un nivel del MCE determinado.
c. Reading. Evalúa la habilidad para comprender diferentes tipos de textos según un nivel del MCE determinado.
Consideraremos que un estudiante está en un nivel dado si responde el 80% de las preguntas de ese nivel de forma correcta.
Si su porcentaje de aciertos es inferior al 80%, esto significa que aún necesita afianzar ese nivel.

f. Al comienzo de cada sección, lea las instrucciones, indique el tiempo disponible y atienda cualquier duda que
pueda surgir.
g. En el caso de la sección Listening, recomiende a los estudiantes que lean las preguntas antes de escuchar los
audios. Reproduzca cada corte (track) un máximo de dos veces.
h. Al finalizar, recoja los cuadernillos y las hojas de respuestas y acuerde una fecha de entrega de resultados con el /
