Proposed mechanism underlying the relationship between epilepsy and ASD.
The comorbidity of ASD with other neurodevelopmental disorders; epilepsy, can be conceptualized in two main
ways. In pathway 1, a genetic variant or mutation causes aberrant brain development or function, leading to
seizures, which in turn impair early cognitive and social development. In pathway 2, ASD and epilepsy
represent two sequelae of a common process, starting from a genetic variant or mutation that leads to aberrant
brain development. These scenarios are not mutually exclusive. Abbreviation: ASD, autism spectrum disorder.
Genetic factors
Most people who develop ASD have
no reported family history of autism,
suggesting that random, rare, and
possibly many gene mutations are
likely to affect a person's risk.
GxG
Environmental factors
As with genes, it's likely that more
than one environmental factor is
involved in increasing risk for ASD.
And, like genes, any one of these risk
factors raises the risk by only a small
amount.

Características del código genético
- Existen 64 tripletes distintos y 20

Afecta aproximadamente a 1
general persistente y progresiva.
La causa del síndrome
de Rett es una alteración
(mutación) en el gen
MECP2 (methyl-CpG-
binding protein 2),
localizado en el locus
(posición de un gen
dentro de un cromosoma)

The relationship between autism and EN2 gene En2
polymorphism and mutations has been suggested E18.5
since 1995
In conclusion, the EN2 polymorphism and mutations, altogether with the other
genes analyzed in the present study showed a high prevalence of unspecific clinical
pictures as well as a major comorbidity before those who showed a normal genetic
background, without clear differences in the prevalence of behavioral disturbances,
especially ASD.
