utilizas la expresión:

How many (elementos en plural) are there?


Cuántos elementos hay?

La respuesta si es solo un elemento es: There is one… (elemento en singular)


La respuesta si es más de un elemento es: There are… (número y elementos en
inglés)

Examples:

How many pieces of bread are there?

There is one piece of bread.

How many hamburgers are there?

There are five hamburgers.
