ABSTRACT
It is wondered how traditional medical industry responds to the information era with new
knowledge economy. In fact, medical industry is a knowledge-intensive and humanoriented
service industry. The interaction among professional staff at various working systems in
hospitals, patients visiting hospitals daily, and the upstream and downstream suppliers for
medical activities forms an extremely useful knowledge database. Although the application of
information technology is not the whole definition of knowledge management, the entire
medical industry, based on other traditional factors, is not ranked on the top for the
utilization of modern information technology, compared to other industries. For this reason,

INTRODUCTION
Following the prosperity of society and economy in China, the citizens have gradually
stressed on medical quality and healthcare ideas to intangibly enlarge the demands for the
quality and quantity of medical service. Moreover, medical industry is approaching the
characteristics of organizations to facilitate the emergence of various types of medical
institutions and result in infinitive competition pressure in medical markets. It becomes an
urgent issue to enhance the medical quality with the knowledge in medical industry to
further create long-term competitive advantages. Medical industry is a knowledge-intensive
and manpower-intensive service industry. Among the intangible assets, “human quality” is
essential. Under the changeable environment, the formulation of strategies is rather difficult
and leaders have to clearly know the development direction of the industry in the future and
the needs of consumers as well as constantly review and update current strategic objectives.
The vitality of an enterprise is maintained by corporate culture that powerful corporate
culture would help the enterprise pass the frustration and challenge in the development
process and turn crises into opportunities. A leader therefore has to formulate flexible
overall corporate strategies, guide the organization to become a self-learning organism, and,
meanwhile, practice knowledge management in the organization to digitalize the knowledge
generation, storage, and expansion process in the organization and form the powerful
corporate culture, aiming to practice the strategies and achieve the high-performance
objective. Effective management has to be combined with organizational strategies and
knowledge management as well as consider leaders’ behaviors and attitudes. Merely when a
leader integrates knowledge management into the strategies and share and communicate
with employees about the strategic objectives and management advantages of the
organization to form the corporate culture and environment which could accept changes at
any time would various plans be practiced and preset objectives be achieved. Leadership is
the clear vision to internalize value into members and to create the environment for
achieving tasks. Since the environment is changing, an organization, according to the
problems encountered in the business management, would constantly propose new
solutions. It is therefore critical for a leader to move one’s heart, encourage the employees
climbing over high peaks, and create the self-development and problem-solving
environment.

are considered to be among the most important enablers of an inclusive environment that
leads to business success.
INTRODUCTION
With the global acceptance of health measures against the spread of the coronavirus
pandemic, two important factors have occurred that will have a significant impact on the
business operations of companies in the future. The first is the global economic crisis, which
has exposed all the weaknesses of existing business models, because the economy was not
prepared for such challenges, there have been mass layoffs and the collapse of many
companies. The second is a new geopolitical reality that will dictate further global economic
relations and the way companies operate within them.

Indeed, the main driver of change in the next decade will be the business ecosystem (Lyman,
Ref and Wright, 2018). This is an economic community supported by a foundation of shared
organizations and individuals, i.e., organisms of business whose goal is to create a healthy,
loose community of companies and organizations that can continuously evolve to survive
rapid and disruptive market changes (Moore, 1993). In a world of increasingly specialized
organizations, a single organization usually lacks the internal resources to develop and
implement innovations. Therefore, organizations must rely on input from a variety of internal
and external stakeholders to create value across the ecosystem (Talmar et al., 2020).
On the other hand, new digital technologies such as nanoelectronics, quantum computing,
high-performance telecommunications networks and artificial intelligence pose an additional
challenge. These herald the 5th Industrial Revolution and in themselves require the
introduction of different and new ways of running modern organizations. In this context, the
new approach envisages collaboration between people and technology, with the aim of mass
customization of products and services to the user. This means that the employee will leave
the manufacturing process to the machines and technologies, while he himself will be much
more involved in the planning and design process. This increases the individual's field of
activity, which consequently increases the employee’s scope of work and responsibility
(Doyle-Kent and Kopacek, 2020). Moreover, from the findings of the studies conducted
earlier, it could be ascertained that leadership plays an important role in meeting the
challenges of modern industrialization (Turisova et al., 2020).

ABSTRACT
This paper presents the findings of a study which examined the relationship between
innovation, transformational leadership and organizational performance. Further, the study
determined the influence of innovation and transformational leadership on organizational
performance. Finally the study examined the most important factor that influences
organizational performance. Data in the study was collected from a sample of 150
managerial staff in Malaysian logistics companies. The obtained data were analyzed using
SPSS Version18. The study found that transformational leadership and innovation were
related to organizational performance. Both transformational leadership and innovation
were found to be the significant influence to organizational performance. This shows that

INTRODUCTION
Innovation and leadership are topics of interests among scholars and practitioners that play
significant impact towards competitive advantage and organizational performance [1] and
[2]. Scholars have been highlighting questions whether innovation and leadership foster
superior performance and whether past performance is driven by innovation and leadership.
Thus unravelling the link of innovation, leadership and organizational performance has
compelled scholars to conduct further research in this area. Several studies have reported
the linear relationship between innovation and organizational performance but the results
remain inconclusive. Some studies indicated positive relationship [3], negative [4] and no
significant relationship [5] between innovation and organizational performance.
Organizations are also vulnerable to various factors [1]. This implies that innovation is not the
only factor that influences organizational performance. Internal and external factors are
sources of competitive advantage that lead to organizational performance [1]. In recent
years, researchers have called attention to the importance of organizational resources such
as leadership capabilities for organizational performance. However the effects of certain
leadership style on organizational performance have not well studied [6]. [7] Suggested
further research need to be carried to examine the relationship of leadership styles on
organizational performance. This is because it is widely accepted that leadership style and its
different dimensions can drive organization destinies [8]. Based on the above articulations
and less critical literature exploring on the relationship of innovation, leadership.
Among the most popular and frequently raised question by scholars in organization’s
strategic management is firm’s difference performance and to achieve superior
organizational performance [9]. Superior performance refers to sustained performance, in
this context refers to superior performance of market share for example in terms of
employee performance, customer satisfaction and financial performance such as return of
investment and shareholder wealth creation. There are several paradigms for clarifying
superior performance of an organization [10]. One of the paradigms is through the
application of Resource Based View (RBV) theory. RBV suggests that organizations are
fundamentally idiosyncratic, and over time accumulate unique combinations of resources
and skills which allow them to garner rents on the basis of “distinctive competence”

INTRODUCTION
Sustainability is progressively becoming a highly critical issue in the business world. Society
has developed a heightened sensitivity to global social and environmental concerns [1],
causing companies to increasingly incorporate social and environmental goals into their
corporate strategies, management practices [2,3] and daily operations [1]. The hospitality
industry is equally affected by this global trend as consumers are increasingly conscious of
issues related to the origin of food, sustainable agriculture, food waste, and labor rights
compliance along the whole supply chain [1].
Given the current dynamic business world, companies search for various ways to achieve a
competitive advantage [4]. Effective leadership is an essential driver of organizational
competitiveness [5], steering the organization and its employees towards improved market
performance [6]. It serves as an important strategic resource [7] and influences operational
processes, innovation capabilities and the development of employees, and also ensures
organizational learning and quality output [8]. In the service sector, the impact of leadership
is equally indisputable [8,9]; in the restaurant industry, leadership skills are highly relevant
for delivering high-quality services and fostering innovation [6] and serves as a substantial
source to gain a competitive advantage [10–12]. Globalization, ever-increasing competition,
technological advances, the shortening of product life cycles, changing market needs and

constrained resources are just a few contributors to the growing pressure on businesses to
innovate [4]. The restaurant industry is particularly affected in its competitive climate, where
innovations tend to be imitated at a faster rate than in the industrial sector [13].
Despite the rising importance of sustainability, leadership, and innovation [5,14–19], as well
as the impact of the culinary innovations of Michelin-starred chefs on the entire restaurant
industry [20], these issues applied in the restaurant context have yet to be fully understood
in scientific literature [21]. Additionally, no studies have been conducted that investigate the
relationship and interdependence between the three topics, especially with regard to the
hospitality industry. Thus, the purpose of this article is to address the aforementioned
literature gap by examining the impact of sustainability and leadership on the innovation
management of Michelin-starred chefs. This study’s contribution includes the development
of a theoretical framework that illustrates the interconnection of the three constructs, as
well as internal and external factors influencing the model; thus, it provides a holistic
overview. Additionally, the study contributes to this gap using qualitative methods to
interview Michelin-starred chefs to provide rich understandings of practice in the highend
hospitality industry.

Research limitations/implications – While the study focusses on leadership, there are many
more factors that impact on the strategic ability of alliances to deliver innovation outcomes.
Other limitations are the multiple levels of analysis in the theoretical model, newly developed
measurement scales and that responses for the empirical study only come from one partner
of the alliance. Practical implications – The study suggests advantages of exercising the full
range of leadership behaviors when seeking innovation alliance outcomes.
INTRODUCTION
Many organizations form alliances to combine and develop know-hows with external
partners and create competitive advantages. While overall alliance activity and related
alliance-dependent revenue has been growing extensively (Park and Zhou, 2005; Schreiner et
al., 2009) their outcome has not always been satisfactory (Wittmann, 2007). Firms differ a lot
in their ability to achieve benefits from entering alliances (Heimeriks and Duysters, 2007).
Previous studies have suggested that the factors that enhance alliance success include the
partners’ ability to match resources and align cultures, decision-making processes, and
systems in the alliance team (Kale et al., 2000); their ability to create trusting relationships
(Zeng and Chen, 2003) and to manage conflict (Doz and Hamel, 1998); the ability to handle
rivalry and managerial complexity (Sampson, 2005) and set up distinct processes and
governance mechanisms to manage numerous alliance relationships at once (Heimeriks and
Duysters, 2007). In studying antecedents of alliance success, one stream of research has
underscored the alignment between partners’ characteristics whereas another has
concentrated on relational mechanisms (Lavie et al., 2012). We contribute to the latter and
focus on the role
and influence of the leadership behavior within the alliance as a distinct relational
mechanism and determinant of joint capability development and alliance success.
Following the strategic management and capabilities literature, capabilities can be of two
types: operational (substantive) and innovation (dynamic) capabilities.

prestigio a nivel nacional.
