The extraction of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), from its acronym in English: constitutes
the first stage of most of the basic studies of molecular biology and of all DNA
recombination techniques. This report documents the results obtained in the extraction of
DNA molecules from ripe tomatoes in order to apply a relatively simple technique to
extract DNA, understand the extraction process and the functionality of the reagents used.
To start with the extraction processes, the tomatoes were chopped to obtain a homogeneous
sample, then it was mixed with a saline-soap solution and said mixture was filtered to
eliminate the solid part of the system, then the bromelain enzyme that is found in the
pineapple and finally proceeded to precipitate the DNA by action of 70% ethyl alcohol.
Which allowed to observe the DNA molecule when carrying out the experience. At the end,
the efficiency of the extraction technique used and the importance of studying DNA was
verified since it contains the genetic information of the cells.
