Abstract

Land cover and use in the Saldaña River Basin has varied due to the climate change that
the planet has suffered in recent years and various anthropic factors that negatively
impact agriculture and all socio-economic activities in general.
For the present work, cartographic information is generated using satellite images in the
period between 1980 and 2010; the images are processed using IDRISI and arcGIS
software and the types of vegetation cover (NDVI) are classified; The changes in the
coverage are analyzed using the Land Change Modeler (LCM) module of the IDRISI
software, which allows the description of the gains and losses of the different categories
using a cross tabulation matrix. Finally, future scenarios are modeled by applying Markov
chains, with the objective of analyzing the changes in coverage and land use through
geographic information systems.
Among the expected results, land use changes between 1980 and 2010 will be
identified and the year 2025 and 2030 will be projected through satellite images obtained
through geographic information systems.
