Netflix abrirá nuevo estudio en Helsinki, el segundo en

Finlandia, esta vez vinculado a los videojuegos

Los primeros videojuegos de Netflix cumplen hoy un año desde que se lanzaron para
dispositivos móviles en España y parece que la plataforma quiere seguir apostando en
este nuevo formato. Mientras continúa trabajando en otras novedades, como el nuevo
plan asequible con anuncios, la compañía ha anunciado que va a abrir un nuevo estudio
de videojuegos en Helsinki (Finlandia).
Este estudio se trataría del segundo que la marca tiene en Finlandia y tendrá como
director a Marko Lastikka, exvicepresidente y ex gerente general del desarrollador de
videojuegos Zynga. La noticia llega después de que la empresa adquiriese distintas
firmas especializadas en el sector, como Next Games, Oxenfree Night School y Boss
Fight Entertainment.
Netflix explica que han optado por ubicar el estudio en Helsinki porque ahí se
encuentran los mejores talentos de la industria del videojuego. De hecho, Lastikka
cuenta con una amplia experiencia al haber trabajado hasta septiembre en Zynga y,
anteriormente, en Electronics Arts y Digital Chocolate.
La plataforma en streaming ofrece sus videojuegos a sus suscriptores sin tener que
pagar ningún extra ni que ver anuncios. Tras un año en funcionamiento, la compañía
cuenta con un catálogo de más de 20 títulos de juegos para móviles y con su nuevo
estudio esperan llegar a su promesa de ampliar la cifra hasta 50.
A pesar de que Netflix se mantenga firme en su apuesta por los videojuegos, cabe
señalar que un informe de Apptopia detalla que menos del 1% de los 220 millones de
miembros en Netflix juega con ellos. De nada sirve que entre los juegos se encuentren
varios relacionados con sus series más exitosas, como ‘Stranger Things: 1984’,
‘Stranger Things 3: The Game’ o ‘La Casa de Papel’. 
De momento, los videojuegos de Netflix son un añadido por el que pocos usuarios se
interesan. Sin embargo, los intentos de la empresa de comprar empresas del sector y su
nuevo estudio en Finlandia invitan a pensar que quieren que los juegos sean uno de sus
muchos atractivos.
"Todavía es pronto y tenemos mucho más trabajo por hacer para
ofrecer una gran experiencia a los jugadores en Netflix -admitió Amir
Rahimi, vicepresidente de Game Studios de Netflix-. La creación de un
juego puede llevar años, por lo que me enorgullece ver cómo estamos
construyendo constantemente la base de nuestros estudios de juegos
en nuestro primer año y espero compartir lo que producimos en los
próximos años".
