para mural, de 1970, pieza en la que David Alfaro Siqueiros utilizó piroxilina Por Sandra Sánchez

exhiben entre ambas pinturas presentan una tensión entre lo figurativo y lo
abstracto, donde no hay oposición sino el uso de uno o de ambos lenguajes.
En otros casos las piezas prescinden del pigmento y utilizan materiales como
tela e hilo. Spectrum de Sofía Táboas hace un guiño al extenso interés de los
artistas modernos por la retícula, presentando una amplia serie de cuadros
pequeños acomodados en filas y columnas. Sin embargo, lejos de buscar una
alteración por medio de la composición a la escritura, los marcos soportan
tozos de tela, emulando un muestrario de alfombras, con nombres que esa
industria utiliza, como magic pink.
Por otro lado, se exhibe la pieza Espacio de mesura de tiempo invertido (1997-
2014) de Carlos Arias, un bordado de tonos pasteles y líneas abstractas. La
pieza recupera el bordado como una técnica que pasa de lo artesanal a lo
artístico, haciendo un comentario sobre la distribución de las tareas entre
hombres y mujeres: ¿quién teje?
Post Neo Mexicanismos. Fase dos cierra con un video de reciente adquisición,
de la artista inglesa radicada en México Melanie Smith. Parres (trilogía, 2004)
es una reflexión sobre los márgenes y la pintura, sobre el gesto y la acción
delgada, donde el lienzo se convierte en un cristal frente a la pantalla que
miramos desde una banca.
Si bien los artistas están dialogando con los lenguajes hegemónicos del arte en
ese tiempo, las obras no presentan un hilo conductor o tema que los relacione.
No hay compromiso “generacional” con una causa o una postura ideológica
desde las que se vea el mundo. La exposición es más bien un ejemplo que
desmonta el mito que rumora que los pintores de los noventa en México poco
tenían que ver con los lenguajes que otros artistas contemporáneos utilizaban
en la época. Queda aún por discutir si todos los artistas que se exhiben tienen
un interés por problematizar el medio de la pintura o si han dejado de lado esa
discusión para simplemente hacer arte.
