HEADING
In navigation, the HEADING of a vessel is the compass
direction in which the craft's bow or nose is pointed.

SCAMIN
SCAMIN is an abbreviation of Scale Minimum. The SCAMIN tool references the
Compilation Scale of data (also called COMP SCALE) attribute value to automatically
populate the SCAMIN attribute field on the applicable feature records.
The SCAMIN value of an object determines the display scale below which the object is no
longer visible on an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).
The purpose of SCAMIN is to reduce the amount of clutter displayed to the ECDIS user.
ECDIS.
ECDIS
An Electronic Chart Display and Information System
(ECDIS) is a geographic information system used for
nautical navigation that complies with International
Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations as an
alternative to paper nautical charts. IMO refers to
similar systems not meeting the regulations as
Electronic Chart Systems (ECSs).
An ECDIS system displays the information from
Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) or Digital
Nautical Charts (DNC) and integrates position
information from position, heading and speed
through water reference systems and optionally
other navigational sensors. Other sensors which
could interface with an ECDIS are radar, Navtex,
Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), and depth
sounders.
capacidad.
La Oficina Hidrográfica del Reino Unido (UKHO) es la agencia del Reino Unido para
proporcionar datos geoespaciales hidrográficos y marinos a los navegantes y
organizaciones marítimas de todo el mundo.
Stands for Lower Explosive Limit .it is Lowest concentration (percentage) of a gas or vapor
in air capable of producing a flash of fire in presence of an ignition source (arc, flame,
heat).
Stands for Upper Explosive Limit it is The maximum concentration of gas or steam that will
burn in air is defined as the Upper Explosive Limit (UEL). Above this level, the mixture is
too "rich" to burn. The range between the LEL and UEL is known as the flammable range
for that gas or steam.
The term “vessel not under command” means a vessel which through some exceptional
circumstance is unable to maneuver as required by these Rules and is therefore unable to
keep out of the way of another vessel. (COLREG).
(COLREG).
NON VOLATILE
In chemistry, the term nonvolatile refers to a substance that does not readily evaporate
into a gas under existing conditions. In other words, a nonvolatile material exerts a low
vapor pressure and has a slow rate of evaporation.
VOLATILE
A volatile substance is one that evaporates or sublimates at room temperature or below.
Volatile substances have higher vapor pressures versus non-volatile substances at the
same temperature. Examples of volatile substances include alcohol, mercury, and
gasoline.
alcohol, mercurio y gasolina.
FLASH POINT
Flash point is the lowest temperature at which a liquid can form an ignitable mixture in air
near the surface of the liquid. The lower the flash point, the easier it is to ignite the
material.
Foot is an imperial and US Customary length unit. 1 Foot is 12 inches. The abbreviation is
"ft".
pulgadas. La abreviatura es "ft".
SAFETY DEPTH.
The sole purpose of the safety depth is to portray spot soundings either in gray for deeper
depths or black for shallower depths compared to the safety depth value entered by the
navigating officer thereby highlighting the potentially safe and unsafe areas. The safety
depth value has no effect on alarms or any other aspect of ECDIS. Safety depth is normally
the ship’s draft + squat.
TONELADA MORSON.
Unit of volume with which the measurement of a vessel is measured. Equivalent to 100
cubic feet or 2.83 m3. tonnage of tonnage: ... It is the capacity in Moorson tons deducted
from the gross register tonnage, from which spaces without commercial profit, such as
machines, crew, etc., are discounted.
Equivale a 100 pies
It is the expression of the usable capacity of a boat. TOTAL ARK OR GROSS REGISTER
TONNAGE (GRT). It is the volume of the ship between the plan and the high deck with all
the spaces closed on it. NET ARK OR TONELAJE DE RECORDRO NET (TRN).
NETO (TRN).
TEU
The equivalent unit of twenty feet (often TEU or teu) is an inaccurate unit of carrying
capacity that is often used to describe the capacity of container ships and container
terminals
