3) CARGA HORARIA: 3 horas semanales 4) OBJETIVOS DE LA ASIGNATURA: Familiarizar al alumno con aquellas estructuras o modelos de entonacin tpicos de la Lengua Inglesa a travs del estudio y la comparacin de distintos enfoques. Adquirir los tonos caractersticos del Ingls Britnico teniendo en cuenta su funcin y sentido en el discurso, prestando atencin a aquellos elementos paralingusticos que tambin conforman una completa e integradora interpretacin del discurso oral.

5) UNIDADES ACADMICAS: SET 1: What is discourse ? Historical bacground. Discourse and communication. Form and function. Intonational features. The importance of context. Pitch, stress and rhythm. The tone unit and its structure: proclitic, tonic and enclitic segments. Intonation and meaning: choice of tone and key. Realization of prominence: stress, accent and prominence. Tone unit boundaries: key and termination, relation between sequences, pitch concord. Orientation. Intonation and discourse structure. Classroom interaction. Traditional and interactive approaches. SET 2 : Rhythm: rhythm and stress. Rhythmical variations: emphasis. Simplification in informal speech: adjustments to phonetic surroundings. Visual clues. Word boundary markers. Introductory and verbal fillers. Repetition. Paralinguistic features. SET 3: Fluency: Assimilation, gemination, elision, weak & strong forms, stress, accent, pauses, pace. Transcription, Dictation from recorded sources.
