FUNDAMENTACIÓN
OBJETIVOS GENERALES

Producir vocales y silabas débiles en palabras aisladas y dentro de la cadena del
discurso.
Conectar y simplificar sonidos en el discurso para un habla fluida y natural.
Seleccionar grupos tonales adecuados al contexto y gramática.
Identificar y producir los distintos tonos de la lengua inglesa.
Diferenciar acento de prominencia.
Transcribir textos escuchados y/o transcriptos usando símbolos fonológicos, marcas
de entonación y posibles aspectos de la cadena del discurso (asimilación, omisión,
etc.)
Leer en vos alta transcripciones fonológicas con símbolos y marcas de entonación.
Utilizar los grupos tonales adecuados y aspectos de la cadena del discurso
(asimilación, omisión, etc.) en lectura de textos en vos alta y en el habla.
CONTENIDOS
UNIT 1
- The intonation system in English: tonality, tonicity and tone.
-Tonality: The utterance and the tone unit in English discourse: structure and functions of
the tone unit. The intonation unit. The Intonation phrase and grammar. The sizes of the
intonation phrases. Difference between speaking and reading a text. Avoiding ambiguity.
-Tonicity: Prominence at word level and in the utterance. The tonic syllable. Sentence
stress. Locating the stress in an intonation phrase. Placing more than one stress. Stressing
function words. Nucleus on a function word.
UNIT 2
- Tone: The five English tones: Fall, fall-rise, rise, rise-fall, and level. Discourse intonation in
English: the meaning of tones in discourse. Proclaiming / referring tone choice: new vs.
given information (synonyms, hyponyms, hypernyms).
UNIT 3
-The intonation of vocatives, verb phrases, questions tags, elliptical questions, phrasal
verbs, adverbials, etc. Structure of the exchange: Initiating, Response, and Follow-up
moves. Intonation patterns generally associated with the main speech acts performed in an
exchange: greetings / farewell, offering / requesting for information. Intonation of discourse
markers as message organizers in independent tone units. Tone meaning. Tone, syntactic
and grammar. Stress and tone: their relation.
UNIT 4
- English Sounds in context: Connected speech. Allophonic and phonemic assimilation of
consonants in the matter of manner of articulation, point of articulation and voicing. Elision
of vowels and consonants. Simplification and reduction of sounds. Strong and weak
syllables. Contracted forms. Disappearing syllables. Syllabic consonant, Syllable reduction.
Clusters. Content vs. function words. Linking sounds. Progressive and regressive
Assimilation. Coalescent Assimilation. Elision. Rhythm in connected speech.

Se debe tener aprobada Fonética II para poder cursar las siguientes materias:

3.25 Didáctica Especial de la Lengua Inglesa en el Nivel Inicial y Educación
Primaria.
3.26 Didáctica Especial de la Lengua Inglesa en el Nivel Secundario y Modalidades.
3.27 Práctica Docente III: Práctica y Residencia en el Nivel Inicial y Primario.
METODOLOGÍA
Los alumnos serán evaluados a través de un Examen Final Escrito y Oral donde se evalúa
la totalidad del programa. El mismo consta de tres instancias obligatorias: 2 escritas y una
oral.
-un examen de transcripción (un texto - condicionante para la segunda instancia).
-un examen escrito (teoría, ejercicios prácticos y de comprensión auditiva).
-un examen oral (teoría, lectura y discurso).
Los trabajos prácticos serán de forma escrita y/u oral (textos, transcripciones, grabaciones
de voz, entrevistas, exposiciones, coloquios, escuchas de audios, etc.).
Los exámenes parciales serán de forma escrita y oral (incluyendo actividades de
Listening).
* Los trabajos prácticos escritos no tienen instancia de recuperatorio. Las exposiciones y/o
entrevistas orales pueden tener instancia de recuperatorio dependiendo el contenido en
cuestión y la condición del alumno.
