haber contado mas sustantivamente con la condición de que sólo hay
dos cosas que la vida, la cual es siempre la de cada cual, en absoluto
no puede ser, que no son, pues, posibilidades de mi vida, que en ningùn
caso pueden acontecer. Esas dos cosas ajenas a mi vida son el nacimiento
y la muerte. Mi nacimiento es un cuento, un mito que otros me cuentan
pero a que yo no he podido asistir y que es previo a la realidad que
llamo vida. En cuanto a mi muerte es un cuento que ni siquiera pueden
contarme. De donde resulta que esa extranisima realidad que es mi vida
se caracteriza por ser limitada, finita y, sin embargo, por no tener ni
principio ni fin. Asi es, a mi juicio, corno hay que plantear el problema
de mi propia muerte, y no corno lo plantea el melodramàtico senor Hei

Los textos que hemos citado nos hacen ver con toda cla
ridad cuàn diferentes de las de Heidegger eran las ideas de
Ortega sobre el origen de la filosofia. Simultàneamente los
mismos textos nos han aclarado con qué reservas y limitacio
nes hay que entender la otra definición heideggeriana del « hom
bre corno pregunta por el ser ». « El hombre es filosofia » y
« el hombre es pregunta por el ser » son equivalentes para Or
tega, pero él mismo no omite sefialar que la segunda es mas
fundamental, ya que sólo al preguntarse por el ser, comienza
el hombre a filosofar. No es, pues, extrafio que, al concluir sus
reflexiones sobre el origen y destino final de la filosofia, Orte
ga se refiera explicitamente a la dimensión humana de la pre
gunta por el ser. Porque no sólo el filosofar, sino también el
preguntarse por el ser son actividades que empezaron un buen
dia y terminaràn — pueden terminar — otro. Concluye, pues
