2. Background
Among the main contributions of the tourism area in any environment, the main
determining point is to describe and analyze the socioeconomic environment with respect
to the tourist activity of the place, seeking to highlight, publicize and enhance its natural
and cultural appreciable benefits.
Globalization has achieved that, within tourism and the administrative, business and
marketing aspects that this area entails, different languages are used due to the wide
communicative dimension that tourism professionals have to be able to reach the
different nationalities that can visit the various destination places in the world. In this
understanding and focusing on our topic to present, we have the language of exchange
par excellence: English; and is that the English language for the tourism professional is a
basic tool in any of the fields where it is developed, according to the World Tourism
Organization in its statements of 2011.
The learning of the English language as a foreign language for the tourism professional in
general is a prevailing need today.
3. Problem Statement
In the understanding that, within the teaching and learning of any language, whether
mother or foreign, linguistic skills are considered as the main skills to develop the
understanding of a new language. We see within the writings prior to this work a common
denominator as the basis for developing this topic, and that is that the teaching of English
for specific purposes that begins its development during the sixties, generates a very

promising beginning for the teaching and learning of new languages at a technical level
that presupposes an important future to establish the English language as the most taught
language, and today a priority when communicating with people of any nationality
worldwide; as well as an important reference when it comes to getting a job.
The reality within our country is that there is not enough knowledge of the curriculum of
teaching foreign languages and is not leveled within all the institutions that provide this
teaching service. It is more the teaching of a language at a technical level is additionally a
challenge of approach, proposal and methodology within the university careers to make
them a reality and provide a truly technical service (being focused on the specific career)
or if, on the other hand, you have a teaching in English for general purposes or with
specific purposes; although the confusion between the terms is not only local, nor
regional; with this study we will see the reality of it.

4.4. Contemporary justification
The present work will help us to know the level of English proficiency through the
syntactic understanding of this language in students of the U.A.G.R.M seeking to train
professionals capable of communicating in this language, as it is the exchange language
par excellence.
It is certainly very important to handle the English language, due to its wide use worldwide
as a foreign language par excellence, so with this work we seek to have an accurate
knowledge of the commitment of this area in professional training as a bastion within the
national economic cycle.
5. Research Objectives
• Know and analyze the degree of academic training of the English language that
they have in the Tourism Career at the U.A.G.R.M

6. Idea to defend
If we identify the most assertive methodological proposal for the teaching of a technical
English in the Tourism Career of the U.A.G.R.M we will have professionals better prepared
communicationally, offering tourism management services at the national level with
greater global openness, thanks to this important communication weapon.

7.2. Language skills
In the understanding of the skills, we develop as human beings, four language-level skills
are understood that allow an individual to understand and produce language effectively
for interpersonal communication. On the website they explain about these skills:
(habilidades.top, 2022)
Listening and reading are the receptive skills because students do not need to produce
language, they receive it and understand it. These skills are sometimes referred to as
passive skills. Productive skills are speaking and writing because students are applying
these skills in a need to produce language.
7.3. TOEFL
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a standardized test of English language
proficiency, specifically aimed at non-native speakers of this language. As a standard, this
test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions around
the world. (Wikipedia, TOEFL, 2021)
The career of Tourism Management at the U.A.G.R.M has been around fifteen years at the
university serving as a career in the Faculty of Humanities. Academic efforts began in 2007
with 42 students and 5 teachers. According to its main website, the Career has the
following mission, vision and curricular mesh:
MISSION

phenomenon and the generation of projects and programs of impact, which allow the
development of social interactions as a basis for the creation of original and quality
tourism options in the region and the country.
VISION
When Bolivia begins to exhaust the possibilities of having in the exploitation of its natural
resources the main option for socio-economic sustenance, tourism will emerge as an
inexhaustible reserve constituting the fundamental activity of sustenance of the people.

Research Design
We will focus on undergraduate students of the tourism career at their basic and
advanced levels of English.
From to the normal variation in number of people who are at the beginning of a career by
difference of the number of students who remain at the end of the career, it is that it is
arbitrarily intended to indicate a certain number for the sample: 20 students of initial level
in English; and another 20 students of advanced level in English, making an estimate that
our sample for the Career is around 40 students between both levels of English.
Considering the exploratory method that was chosen for the present work, we continue
in the same line and focus on action research as a form of research that allows us to link
the experimental approach that we will obtain from exploring in this work to get to
understand the reality of the subjects taught throughout the Tourism Career and that in
turn (as a consequence) the problem of the true need of the students is answered of this
Career at the Level of English Language.
At the same time, we will use action research as a curricular model 2 seeking to give a
coherent approach, considering the learning process that the students of the career
already have, so that we can bring a considerable and noticeable improvement in the
level of the English language effectively to practice. In that sense we will rely on the
TOEFL in the reading comprehension approach to determine the level of English in the
students of the Career.

8.5. Instruments
It is believed that the study will show a positive variation in terms of grammatical reading
comprehension in the last year of the degree compared to the first year of it.
9. Expected results
From the knowledge that was acquired in this research process, it is considered that one
of the best methodological proposals to be implemented in this career, on its curricular
management, is to give access through diplomas or postgraduate courses in the English
language aimed at the tourist area. Everything, once knowing the real need and timeliness
of the career with the management of the English language, and its corresponding level.
To efficiently achieve the development of this work, we propose the following activities to
be completed within a period of seven months until the conclusion and implementation of
results with their respective conclusions. A table with seven activities to be fulfilled is
observed, and the corresponding boxes equivalent to the periods of time per week within
the month indicated at the top of the boxes have been checked.
