Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to welcome you to our unit on online safety. Although Kindergarten might

seem quite young to be introducing privacy and safety concerns on the web, more and more

students are using tablets, computers, and smartphones at younger and younger ages. To better

prepare your student for a successful education, getting into safe habits is crucial. For this lesson,

the students and I will be discussing “Privacy and Safety”, which the children will be taught

three easy rules to follow when we are working with the internet in our class and at home. These

rules are similar to ones that the students should already be familiar, such as not talking to

strangers online (just like we aren’t supposed to do in real life, either), to ask permission from a

parent/guardian/teacher before getting online, and to only travel to websites that they are familiar

with or that they have help from a teacher/guardian to access. I have attached to this letter a

“Family Activity” suggested by Commonsense Media, as I will be utilizing the resources

available there for this unit. Please feel free to search through the website and don’t hesitate to

email me with any questions or concerns that you might have while we work forward through

our studies!

Queridos padres y guardianes,

Me gustaría darle la bienvenida a nuestra unidad sobre seguridad en línea. Aunque Kindergarten

puede parecer bastante joven para introducir preocupaciones de privacidad y seguridad en la

web, cada vez más estudiantes usan tabletas, computadoras y teléfonos inteligentes a edades cada

vez más tempranas. Para preparar mejor a su estudiante para una educación exitosa, es crucial

adquirir hábitos seguros. Para esta lección, los estudiantes y yo hablaremos sobre "Privacidad y

seguridad", y a los niños se les enseñarán tres reglas fáciles de seguir cuando trabajemos con

Internet en nuestra clase y en casa. Estas reglas son similares a las que los estudiantes ya

deberían conocer, como no hablar con extraños en línea (tal como se supone que tampoco

debemos hacer en la vida real), pedir permiso a un padre/tutor/maestro antes de obtener en línea,

y solo viajar a sitios web con los que estén familiarizados o para los que tengan la ayuda de un

maestro/tutor para acceder. Adjunto a esta carta una "Actividad familiar" sugerida por

Commonsense Media, ya que utilizaré los recursos disponibles allí para esta unidad. ¡No dude en

buscar en el sitio web y no dude en enviarme un correo electrónico con cualquier pregunta o
