El uso del Present Simple

Como seguramente habr podido observar, ste es el tiempo verbal que utilizamos para
referirnos a las acciones cotidianas y habituales. Normalmente el Present Simple va acompaado de
expresiones de tiempo como:

- Las horas.

- Los das de la semana.

- Los meses y estaciones del ao.

- Los adverbios de frecuencia.

El Present Simple tambin se utiliza para hablar en trminos generales de las actividades que nos
agradan o desagradan. Algunos verbos que expresan esto son: Love, Like, Enjoy, Dislike y Hate

1. LISTENING Charles Hayward. Escucha a Charles Hayward hablar acerca de

sus fines de semana y rellena los huecos del prrafo con las formas correctas de
los siguientes verbos.

Verbos like, love y hate

Estos verbos son transitivos, es decir, necesitan un complemento directo. Este complemento
puede ser un sustantivo:

I like dogs. Me gustan los perros.

She loves the theatre. A ella le encanta el teatro.

They dislike Chinese food. No les agrada la comida china.

He hates spiders. l odia las araas.

o bien otro verbo puede hacer de complemento:

She likes reading biographies. Le gusta leer biografas.

They love eating out. Les encanta comer fuera.

He dislikes driving. No le gusta conducir.

I hate ironing. Odio planchar.

Como puede ver en los ejemplos, el gerundio se forma aadiendo la terminacin '-ing' al
infinitivo del verbo.

3. Sheila no tiene novio. George no tiene novia. Deciden inscribirse en la agencia

de contactos Lonely Hearts. Lee las respuestas a las preguntas que les hace el
formulario de inscripcin.

El artculo definido 'the'

Este artculo posee una forma nica para el masculino, femenino, singular y plural; es decir su
traduccin es 'el / la / los / las'. Se usa para designar objetos o personas que ja hemos identificado
previamente

o cuando estos objetos o personas son considerados como nicos:

the sea the Pope the moon the sky the earth

The se usa cuando hablamos de casos particulares; en cambio no se usa cuando hablamos de
casos generales:

Me gustan las pelculas pero la de esta noche en la tele es particularmente aburrida.

The no se utiliza en los siguientes casos:

1. Para hablar de algo en trminos generales:

He usually drinks beer after work. Generalmente bebe cerveza despus del trabajo.

2. Delante de las comidas habituales (breakfast / lunch / dinner):

English people have dinner early in the evening. Los ingleses cenan pronto por la noche.

3. Delante de ciertos lugares como 'bed y work' y delante de las instituciones

pblicas:

On Sundays I stay in bed until late. Los domingos me quedo en la cama hasta tarde.

He's in prison. Est en la crcel.

My friend studies at university. Mi amigo estudia en la universidad.

4. Cuando hablamos de los medios de transporte en que nos desplazamos:

Do you go to work by train? Vas al trabajo en tren?

He dislikes travelling by plane. Le disgusta viajar en avin.
