(Content Words vs. Function Words)

Each word in English belongs to one of the eight

parts of speech. Each word in English is also
either a content word or a function word. Let's
think about what these two types mean:

Cada palabra en ingls pertenece a una de las ocho

partes del discurso. Cada una de ellas se clasifican
como content word (palabra de contenido) o
como function word (palabra de funcin).
Veamos lo que significan ambas:
Content o contenido se refiere a la informacin, al
significado.

Content = information, meaning

Function = necessary words for grammar

Function o funcin es el conjunto de palabras

necesarias gramaticalmente.

In other words, content words give us the most

important information while function words are
used to stitch those words together.

En otras palabras, las palabras de contenido nos

dan la informacin ms importante, mientras que
las funtion words o palabras de funcin se usan
para unir las palabras entre s.

Clasificacin de las palabras de contenido (content words)

English
Content words are usually nouns, verbs,
adjectives and adverbs. A noun tells us which
object, a verb tells us about the action happening,
or the state. Adjectives give us details about
objects and people and adverbs tell us how, when
or where something is done. Nouns, verbs,
adjectives and adverbs give us important
information required for understanding.

Spanish
Las palabras de contenido generalmente se
clasifican en nombres o sustantivos, verbos,
adjetivos y adverbios. Un nombre o sustantivo nos
indica cul es el objeto, un verbo indica la accin
o situacin que est ocurriendo. A su vez, los
adjetivos proporcionan detalles sobre los objetos y
personas; y los adverbios indican cmo, cundo o
dnde se realiza cualquier accin. Los nombres,
verbos, adjetivos y adverbios proporcionan
informacin valiossima para la comprensin.
Nombre o sustantivo: persona, lugar o cosa.
Verbo: accin o situacin
Adjetivo: Describe un objeto, persona, lugar o
cosa.
Adverbio: informa cmo, dnde o cundo algo
ocurre.

Noun = person, place or thing

Verb = action, state
Adjective = describes an object, person, place or
thing
Adverb = tells us how, where or when something
happens

1) Elijan una lectura de extensin regular de su agrado
2) Recrtenla y pguenla sobre una hoja, Esta hoja debern incorporarla al ejercicio cuando lo
entreguen.
3) Ustedes debern indicar seis (6) de cada una de las content words: nouns, verbs, adjectives,
