¿QUÉ SON GLÁNDULAS SUPRARRENALES?

Las glándulas suprarrenales son pequeñas


glándulas ubicadas en la parte superior de
cada riñón. Estas producen hormonas
imprescindibles para la vida, incluyendo
hormonas sexuales y cortisol. El cortisol
ayuda a responder al estrés y tiene muchas
otras funciones importantes.

¿QUÉ ES LA GLÁNDULA HIPOTÁLAMO?

La glándula hipotálamo no es una


glándula propiamente dicha, sino una
estructura del cerebro que forma parte del
diencéfalo y que se encarga de producir y
regular hormonas que controlan la
fisiología y la conducta. Está conectada
con la hipófisis o glándula pituitaria, que
es la que extiende los efectos de las
hormonas hipotalámicas al resto del
cuerpo.

Función de las Glándulas


Suprarrenales
Las glándulas suprarrenales se componen de dos partes,
la corteza y la médula, que producen hormonas
(mensajeros químicos que regulan las funciones del
cuerpo). La médula, o parte interior de las glándulas
suprarrenales, produce la hormona norepinefrina y la
epinefrina, que regulan la respuesta de "pelear o correr"
del cuerpo, es decir, la reacción del mismo ante eventos
estresantes. La corteza, o parte externa de las glándulas
suprarrenales, produce varias hormonas que afectan la
presión arterial y los niveles de azúcar, el crecimiento y
algunas características sexuales.

Función de la Glándula Hipotálamo

La función principal del hipotálamo es mantener la


homeostasis o equilibrio de todo el cuerpo. Esta
estructura desempeña una multitud de funciones
esenciales para un normal funcionamiento del
organismo.
Por ejemplo, es la razón por la que sabemos cuándo
tenemos sed o hambre, o por qué mantenemos siempre
una temperatura constante.
El hipotálamo recibe información de casi todo el
sistema nervioso, y está implicado en una multitud de
funciones del sistema nervioso autónomo.

Cómo funcionan las glándulas suprarrenales


Las glándulas suprarrenales producen las hormonas
cortisol, aldosterona, adrenalina y noradrenalina.
También producen hormonas que su cuerpo usa para
producir hormonas sexuales (estrógeno y testosterona).
Todas estas hormonas realizan muchas funciones
importantes, incluyendo:
• Convertir los alimentos en energía y controlar los
niveles de azúcar en la sangre
• Regular el equilibrio de sal y agua
• Mantener una presión arterial normal
• Responder a la enfermedad y al estrés (reacción
conocida como "lucha o huida")
• Comenzar el desarrollo sexual de un niño y su rapidez
• Mantener el embarazo

Cómo funcionan las glándulas hipotálamo


El hipotálamo es responsable de mantener
ciertas funciones:
• Regulación de la temperatura corporal, la
frecuencia cardíaca, la sed, el hambre, los
ciclos de sueño y la presión
arterial (homeostasis).

desencadenan la producción de otras
hormonas en todo el cuerpo.
