Here are nine ways you can start to create a pattern of excellent customer service in your
business.
2) - Be friendly
As they say, customer service starts with a smile. When you are in a face-to-face situation, a warm
greeting should be the first thing your customers see and hear when they ask for help. And even
when handling customer service requests via telephone, a smile can come through in your voice,
so make sure you’re ready to be friendly.
24
Two double rooms and one single, please
5) - Show respect
Customer service can often involve emotions, so it’s important to make sure you and others you
have handling your customer service tasks are always courteous and respectful. Never let your
own emotions overtake your desire to see your customer walk away happy.
6) - Listen
Listening is one of the simplest secrets of customer service. Listening means hearing what your
customers are saying out loud, as well as what they are communicating non-verbally. Watch for
signs that they are displeased, as well as what say to you directly.
7) - Be responsive
There may be nothing worse than non-responsiveness to a customer who is trying to get help,
resolve an issue, or find out more about what you’re selling. It’s important to respond quickly to
all inquiries, even if it is only to say you are looking into the issue and will be back in touch. Some
response is always better than none so the customer doesn’t feel ignored.
You may be surprised what you learn about your customers and their needs when you ask them
what they think of your business, products, and services. You can use surveys, feedback forms
and questionnaires, but you can also make it a common practice to ask customers first-hand for
feedback when they are completing their orders.

Grammar note
Tres cosas para tener en cuenta:
1. Observe que la tercera persona del singular “he / she / it” cambia de “have”a “has”.
tiempo verbal present perfect:
Ejemplos:
• I have walked= Yo he caminado.
• I have talked= Yo he hablado.
• I’ve walked = Yo he caminado.
• You’ve walked = Tú has caminado.
• He’s walked = Él ha caminado.
• We’ve walked = Nosotros hemos caminado.
• You’ve walked = Ustedes han caminado.
• They’ve walked = Ellos/Ellas han caminado.

Uses (Usos)
1. Se usa “will” con acciones voluntarias.
Ejemplos:
• Will you help me move? (¿Me ayudarás a mudarme?)
• They will clean their rooms. (Limpiarán sus habitaciones.)
• She won’t work with Paul. (No trabajará con Paul.)
4. Se puede usar “will” o “going to” para predicciones porque el hablante no tiene control
sobre el futuro.
Ejemplos:
• It will be a great party. / It is going to be a great party. (Será una fiesta genial.)
• It won’t rain. / It is not going to rain.

Courtesy
One of the characteristics of good manners is the art of courtesy which, among other things,
means saying “please” and “thank you” when the situation demands.
Respect
We act with those around us with care and respect. We do not judge by race, gender, age, culture
or religion. This feature of good manners means we treat everyone with respect and expect them
to do the same with us
We have to show respect to our elders, disabled and virtually every type of person with whom
you meet in different environments.
Responsibility
You are visiting someone’s home and accidentally break a small vase in the bathroom. Do you
pick up and throw it away without telling anyone? or do you want your host to apologize and offer
to replace it? Good manners require that we take responsibility for our own actions. The company
also benefits from this feature of manners, and everyone is responsible for their behavior.
Generosity
Offer your place in line to someone who is on crutches is an example of generosity, bring a seat
on the bus to somebody else. These are small details that show that you care about others before
yourself, a feature of good manners. If others are giving you with some altruistic intentions, we
will make our society stronger.
Honesty
Honesty is the basis of good manners. Lying is always destructive, however small. The label
requires that people are valued each other enough to tell the truth. The ultimate good manners
honesty is applied to each of the decisions to be taken. This trait of good manners is essential
for a safe society.

2| Asking for help!
¡Pidiendo ayuda!
52
May I help you?

• Could you help me? (¿Podrías ayudarme?)
• Could I be wrong? (¿Podría estar equivocado?)
57
Could

• I couldn’t sleep last night. (No pude dormir anoche.)
• It could have been worse. (Podría haber sido peor.)
• Could you play an instrument when you were a child?

estudiaras.)
• I think it could rain later.
Ejemplos:
• Could you pass the salt please? (¿Podría pasarme la sal por favor?)
• Could you help me? (¿Podrías ayudarme?)
• Could I be wrong? (¿Podría estar equivocado?)

llover más tarde.)
• It may be better to finish this now, rather than wait until tomorrow. (Tal
Ejemplos:
• You may leave if you like. (Puede salir si quiere.)
• You may use your cell phones now. (Puede usar sus teléfonos ahora.)
En frases interrogativas, el uso de “may” es más educado que “can” o “could”.

puede llover más tarde.)
• It might be better to finish this now, rather than wait until tomorrow. (Tal

directamente a preguntarnos si estábamos perdidas o a qué dirección queríamos llegar.

help us when we travel or visit an airport.
¾¾ Instead of “Where are you flying today?” the agent may ask “What’s your final
destination?” The answer will be the same!
¾¾ To check your bags means to put them on the airplane inside the cargo compartment. The
small bag you take with you on the airplane is called a carry-on. You need to put your carry-

¾¾ The scale is the equipment that tells you the weight of your luggage (45 kilograms, for
example)
¾¾ A stopover or layover is when the airplane stops in a different city before continuing to the
final destination
¾¾ If the agent says that your luggage will go straight through, it means it will go directly to the
final destination (and you don’t need to pick it up during your stopover)
¾¾ Boarding passes are the tickets that permit you to enter the airplane
¾¾ When a plane begins boarding, it means that the passengers start to enter the plane. Usually
boarding time is 30-60 minutes before takeoff (when the plane leaves)

a 20-minute delay” (for example) if the flight will leave later than expected.
There are two pieces of equipment in security: you put your bags through the X-ray machine, and

Catarina (Masaya)
vista.
88
Producing and selling our National Products
Catarina (Masaya)
Catarina is a town close to Masaya, overlooking the Apoyo Lagoon. Catarina is famous for this
magnificent observation point of the lagoon, as well as for its nurseries.
The viewpoint of Catarina is one of the highest hills surrounding the Apoyo Lagoon, and the view
from there is superb. You can see the whole lagoon as well as Lake Nicaragua behind it. The
Mombacho volcano borders the lake and is also prominently present.
The Catarina viewpoint is a popular place among Nicaraguans during weekends, when families
and friends gather here to enjoy the view, grab a bite in one of the restaurants, or have a look
through one of the telescopes. These visitors attract salesmen and singers who wander around
trying to sell their products or songs. The atmosphere still is quite relaxing during the weekend
though, and if you really prefer to be here when there are only few people around you can simply
go there during weekdays.
There are also some souvenir shops around the viewpoint where you can buy some locally
produced handcrafts.
Catarina is also known for its fertile soil and it is a hotspot of nurseries. There are many small
outside shops where trees, plants, palms, and other garden-material is being sold. People come
even from Managua to buy their plants.

Grammar note
Puede tener la estructura If… then…

If you drop a piece of gold in water, it sinks. (Si echas una pieza de oro

Playa Bluff

Bluff Beach is the area where Blufileños choose to spend their holidays. It is common that during
the week the amount of visitors is less, however, is the best place for sunbathing and relaxing as
it is an unspoiled beach, clean and safe.
In this area of the community is a small soccer field with huts made of wood and straw where
villagers gather to play and watch football games. This space can also be used by tourists, who
can share the love of the sport with the locals and enjoy an active afternoon.
The beach has features similar to the Pacific beaches: the sand is brown and has stronger
waves than most of the waters in the Caribbean. In addition, the shoreline is a small building of
wood and thatch huts, which function as a restaurant and bar. There are also public baths built
by INTUR in coordination with the Municipality of Bluefields.

Condicional 1
Estructura del condicional 1
Uso
If I have time tomorrow, I will help you. (Si tengo tiempo mañana, te ayudaré)
119
Estructura:
¾¾ If you come to the party, you will meet my sister.
¾¾ If she gets home late, I will be very angry.
