Introduction

El pasado simple [past simple] es el tiempo

usado para expresar situaciones, eventos y
acciones que ocurrieron en el pasado.

Cuando se utiliza en su forma negativa, el

verbo niega algo sobre el sujeto.

Form

El pasado simple de los

verbos regulares e irregulares* en su
forma negativa tiene esta estructura:
Subject + did + not + verb + …
Did es la forma pasada del verbo do.
La forma abreviada del negativo es didn’t.

*Preguntas y negativos de los verbos

irregulares tienen la misma estructura que
los verbos regulares.

Example

1. I didn’t plant some trees yesterday.

2. I didn’t study about plants for the exams.
3. The school didn’t decide that all students
should do exercise. 
4. They didn’t travel all over the place.

Use

Usamos el pasado simple, en la

forma negativa, para negar:

1. Acciones cortas, situaciones y eventos que

no ocurrieron y terminaron en el pasado;
2. Eventos repetidos y hábitos que no
tuvieron lugar en el pasado;
3. Eventos del pasado que no ocurrieron y
usamos expresiones de tiempo como: two
weeks ago, last year, in 2010, yesterday…

Summary

Usamos el pasado simple [past simple], en

su forma negativa, para negar situaciones
que ocurrieron en el pasado y ahora han
terminado.

Cuando usamos el pasado simple en

negativo empezamos con el sujeto seguido
por did not y el verbo en infinitivo.

Por ejemplo:
— “They didn’t work on an important project
yesterday.” = Usamos el pasado simple
para expresar un evento del pasado que no
ocurrió.
