ADJECTIVES – Adjetivos
There is no general rule for making adjectives. We know they are adjectives
usually by what they do (their function) in a sentence. However, some word
endings (suffixes) are typical of adjectives.
Adjectives Forms
Adjectives often end in (suffixes): -able, -ible, -ate, -ant, -ent, -ful, -ive, -ous, -y.
presentable, sensible, sensitive, articulate, relevant, intelligent, thoughtful,
conscientious, friendly
Adjectives are sometimes formed from nouns:
interest – interesting, energy – energetic
Adjectives are sometimes formed from verbs:
present ¬– presentable, attract – attractive
Many adjectives have the same form as a present participle (verb + -ing) or a past
participle (verb + -ed): worried, worrying
Adjectives go before a noun in a sentence :
He has an impressive CV.
Adjectives go after the verb to be:
He was sensible, without being over-confident.
Adjectives go after linking verbs like look, seem, become:
He looked presentable; he seemed intelligent.
Compound adjectives or multiword adjectives are formed from two words, usually
hyphenated:
Well-qualified, over-confident
Adjectives can be modified by an adverb:
A bit worrying, very friendly
An adjective can appear as a comparative adjective or a superlative adjective:
Older, more dynamic, oldest, most suitable
Adjectives can be gradable (they exist in different degrees) or ungradable (they don’t
have different degrees, they are absolute or complete):
Very friendly, perfect
ADVERBS – Adverbios
The adverb is the head of the phrase and can appear alone or it can be modified by
other words. Adverbs are one of the four major word classes, along with nouns, verbs
and adjectives.
Example: We usually go on holiday in August.
Adverbs Forms
In the examples the adverb phrases are in bold. The other words that modify the
adverb are underlined

Investigue brevemente sobre una ciudad de Colombia que sea de su interés; ubicación,
sitios turísticos, personas oriundas reconocidas, comida típica, danza típica, etc.
Cartagena de Indias
Is a port city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. By the sea is the walled Old City,
which was founded in the 16th century, with plazas, cobblestone streets, and colorful
colonial buildings. With a tropical climate, the city is also a popular destination for its
beaches. You can reach the Isla de Barú, with white sand beaches and palm trees, and
the Islas of the Rosario, famous for their coral reefs, by boat.
Most of the typical foods of the rest of the Caribbean Region in Colombia are born in
Cartagena, such as empanada con huevo, carimañola, shrimp cocktail among other
seafood, bean fritters, Kola Román, among other foods. Likewise, because it is a city
with a high rate of Tourism, it has a significant number of restaurants with different
cuisines from around the world, such as Italian food, Mexican food, Mediterranean
food, Chinese food and obviously Colombian food.
Since long before the generalization of champeta, mapalé, cumbia and son, among
others, are airs that have found a favorable environment for their development in the
city. Among the most important musicians from Cartagena of coastal music, it is worth
noting Sofronín Martínez, Rufo Garrido, Joe Arroyo and Juan Carlos Coronel. The city is
currently represented internationally by the Kalamary Big Band.
