Sumérgete en el Inglés
More than English
inglés, porque Pueblo Inglés es “More Than English”.
INDICE
Con los nombres usamos el artículo the cuando nos referimos a algo específico. Cuan-
do hablamos de una cosa en general, no lo usamos.
The hats at that store are big. - Los gorros en esa tienda son grandes.
Hats are elegant. - Los gorros son elegantes (en general).

Common Error - People is
This is one of the most common mistakes that students make. One person is; several
people are. It’s that simple- ‘person’ is singular and ‘people’ is plural. This goes for oth-
er verbs as well: people go, people eat (NOT ‘goes’ or ‘eats’)
5
Idiom - Drives me crazy
She drives me crazy, hoo, hoo. You might remember this song. This phrase can
have two meanings. We sometimes use it to say that we are very attracted to
somebody. However, you can also use it to say that you find something very ir-
ritating - That noise drives me crazy. Sadly, many relationships start and end like
this: somebody drives you crazy and then their habits drive you crazy.

Grammar - This/that
Para decir ‘éste’, ‘ésta’ y ‘esto’ – es decir, hablar de una cosa que se encuentra
cerca del interlocutor usamos this en inglés:
This milk is bad. - Esta leche está mala.
This is a typical dish. - Éste es un plato típico.
This is ridiculous. - Esto es ridículo.
Para hablar de una cosa lejos del que habla, usamos that, tanto para decir eso
como aquello, etc.
That car is new.- Ese coche es nuevo.
That brand is expensive. - Esa marca es cara.
That is Venus. - Eso es Venus.
That stadium is enormous. - Aquel estadio es enorme.
Cuando preguntas o te refieres a una cosa por primera vez, dices, is that a dog?
Una vez identificado, contestamos: Yes it is.
Is this easy? – ¿Es fácil esto? Yes, it is. – Sí, lo es.

Common Error - The Maria’s shoes
This lesson is one that students see time and time again throughout their studies. The
concept is often hard to remember. If we talk about possession, we use an ‘s at the
end of a name: Jane’s book, Bob’s car…
If the name ends in S, you can just add an apostrophe: James’ toy.
Keep in mind that this is true for people, animals and time expressions (and sometimes
places). Fort things, we don’t say ‘the bus’s wheels’; we would say ‘the wheels of the
bus’.
Another common mistake with this structure comes from translating directly. We don’t
use the article ‘the’ with the possessive. We DON’T say ‘The Sarah’s bag’.
Have you seen the singers’ costumes? - ¿Has visto los disfraces de los cantantes?
Mitch’s car is brand new. – El coche de Mitch es totalmente nuevo.
My cousin’s accent is hard to understand. – El acento de mi primo es difícil de
entender.

Idiom - It’s raining cats and dogs
There are many theories about where this idiom comes from. Some say it is from
mythology, others say that it is a bizarre weather phenomenon that sucks animals
into the sky to rain them back down. A popular theory speaks of animals sleeping
in the rafters or under the roof that fall down when it rains hard. In any case, we
use this expression to mean ‘raining really hard’.
We stayed inside because it was raining cats and dogs. – Nos quedamos dentro
porque llovía a cántaros/ llovía mucho.
