Let’s Manage Solid Waste*

Activity 1 Small changes can make a big difference!

Propósito. Los estudiantes Leerán un instructivo

ilustrado para elaborar un objeto con material reciclado,
identificando vocabulario y frases que permitan brindar
indicaciones. Finalmente, crearás un instructivo ilustrado
en inglés para crear un objeto nuevo con material
reciclado que tienes en casa.
Los residuos sólidos están contaminando nuestro planeta. Se
ha incrementado el uso exagerado de residuos sólidos durante
la cuarentena y solo cerca del 9% se recicla. ¿Qué materiales
reciclables tenemos en casa? ¿Podríamos convertirlos en
otros objetos útiles? ¿Qué pasos debemos seguir para crear
estos objetos con materiales reciclados? ¿Puedo compartir en
inglés ideas que permitan reciclar residuos sólidos?
Let’s practise!
En el Ejercicio 1, unirás las instrucciones con las imágenes
que mejor representan cada instrucción. Luego, deberás
ubicar las instrucciones en orden, de acuerdo a la secuencia
lógica de la actividad. Finalmente, escucharás el audio del
recurso para verificar tus respuestas.
Reto: Crear un instructivo ilustrado para crear un
objeto con material reciclado y así poder promover
el manejo adecuado de los residuos sólidos.

Create an Illustrated Set of Instructions

La semana pasada, identificamos y clasificamos materiales que podemos reciclar y pensamos en
objetos que podríamos crear con estos materiales. ¡Ahora Manos a la obra! Vamos a crear un objeto
con la lista de materiales que elaboraste la semana pasada y un instructivo ilustrado. Si muchos
hacemos esto, estaremos contribuyendo con el mejor manejo de los residuos sólidos.

Para el desafío de esta semana podrás escoger entre dos opciones:

Option A: Write step by step instructions that explain how to make coasters from old
newspapers. Match each step with the picture below.

Step 1: Look at the pictures that show how to make coasters from newspapers:

Step 2: Write instructions for each picture. Use the verbs from the box. Follow the example.

Useful verbs: Example: Roll each sheet of newspaper to make a long stick.

Option B: Write a set of instructions to make a new object with recycled materials that you
find in your house. Choose one of the objects from your list from last week!

Step 1: Make the object with recycled materials and take pictures of the process.

Step 2: Write the instructions for each picture of the process. You can check the glossary for the verbs
you might need to use.

Step 3: Add sequence words to your instructions.

Christmas is coming and it is a great opportunity to make ornaments with
recycled materials for our houses. Today we are going to make a
decoration for the door or wall with recycled cardboard tubes from a roll of
toilet paper. For this project you need these materials: two cardboard
tubes, scissors, green paint, red buttons, glue and a brush.
Now, follow these steps:
• First, paint the cardboard tube.
• Next, flatten the cardboard tube and cut it into small strips.
• Then glue the parts together.
• After that, add details, like red buttons.
• Finally, hang it on the wall!
