A characteristic of these particles is their meaning will vary according to the phrasal verb
compound. A simple example would be the verb come (venir) which, despite its original
meaning, becomes “encontrarse con" or "toparse con" if added through.
Similarly, the same compound verb can have more than one meaning. For example, rejecting
can mean "bajar el volumen (de la musica)" or "rechazar" .
Compound phrasal verbs use more in everyday speech than in formal writing. A verb can be
combined with prepositions (come on, in, under), o adverbios (come up, down, away).
