Nota de prensa de Brian Currin sobre la muerte de Jon

La Izquierda Abertzale se ha comprometido con medios no-violentos y está trabajando
duro para conseguir que ese objetivo sea una realidad irreversible. Si la no-violencia se va
a convertir en la nueva política de Euskal Herria, el compromiso con la no-violencia debe
de aplicarse a todos, incluyendo los gobiernos. Muchas veces los rumores y percepciones
son tan reales como la propia verdad.

Por tanto, si no se dan los pasos para establecer qué le pasó exactamente a Jon Anza
durante el periodo de entre el 19 de abril, cuando desapareció, y el 29 de abril, cuando le
ingresaron en el hospital, si no se dan los pasos para esclarecer la causa de su muerte y
si no se dan los pasos para averiguar por qué la policía no respondió a la notificación del
hospital sobre la muerte de un hombre no identificado cuando conocían la desaparición
de Jon Anza, la ciudadanía de Euskal Herria creerá que la policía estaba involucrada en su
muerte, incluso no habiendo sido así.

Por eso es de gran importancia que se nombre a una comisión independiente para
responder a estas preguntas. Si la muerte de Jon Anza fue el resultado de causas
naturales, es importante que se esclarezca, para que las percepciones de mala práctica
de la policía puedan ser rechazadas. Si la policía estuviera involucrada de alguna forma,
esto tiene de demostrarse y los responsables deben rendir cuentas. Estableciendo una
investigación independiente el gobierno estaría mostrando su compromiso contra todo
tipo de violencia, incluso aquella que proviene de sus propios agentes.

Brian Currin's press statement about Jon Anza's death

The Abertzale Left has committed itself to non-violent means and is working hard
at achieving that objective as an irreversible reality. If non-violence is to become
the new politics of Euskal Herria then a commitment to non violence must apply
to all, including governments. Rumours and perceptions are often as real as the
truth.

Therefore, if steps are not taken to establish exactly what happened to Jon Anza
during the period 19 April when he disappeared and 29 April when he was
admitted to hospital; and if steps are not taken to establish the cause of his
death; and if steps are not taken to find out why the police did not respond to the
notification from the hospital about the death of an unidentified man when they
knew about Jon Anza’s disappearance, then people of Euskal Herria will believe
that the police were involved in his death even if they were not.

It is therefore of great importance that an independent commission be appointed

to answer these questions and other. If Jon Anza’s death was the result of natural
causes it is important that that be proved so that perceptions of police
malpractice can be negated. If the police were involved in any way then that
must be proved and those responsible must be held accountable. By establishing
such an independent investigation the government would be showing its
commitment against all form of violence even if that violence comes from its own
agents.
