DESCRIPCIN
Asia ha tenido un desarrollo histrico importante y su incidencia a lo largo del desarrollo de Occidente ha
sido significativa. En los albores del siglo XXI, las dinmicas que ocurren en este continente ocupan un
lugar privilegiado en la agenda internacional. Con civilizaciones con ms de 4000 aos de antigedad,
entender estas dinmicas requiere una comprensin histrica y cultural de la evolucin poltica del
continente. Con nfasis en Asia Pacfico, y una referencia a la India, la asignatura abordar los diversos
desarrollos polticos del continente, la historia de la diplomacia, la guerra y las relaciones econmicas de la
regin desde el ao 1500 A.C. hasta la actualidad.
OBJETIVOS

Entender el proceso histrico y el desarrollo econmico de Asia Pacfico.

Comprender los tipos de regmenes polticos existentes en Asia Pacfico.
Entender los valores comunes y diferenciadores frente a Occidente.

METODOLOGA
La asignatura seguir una metodologa magistral combinada con el seminario La mayora de las sesiones
contienen una lectura obligatoria comn y una lectura obligatoria adicional que se asignar de manera
grupal. Con este mtodo se busca que los estudiantes aporten y enriquezcan la discusin de los aspectos
fundamentales de las lecturas contando con la gua del profesor. A partir de la segunda parte del curso, se
realizarn exposiciones grupales que junto con los talleres debern incluir referencias bibliogrficas de
investigacin. Adicionalmente se pedirn anlisis y/ reseas de documentales y pelculas.
TEMAS
El curso consiste en cuatro partes histricas y temticas. La primera parte buscar introducir diferentes
marcos analticos para abordar la realidad de Asia haciendo nfasis en las propuestas reivindican el papel
de Asia oriental en la formacin del sistema internacional; las partes segunda, tercera y cuarta desarrollan
la evolucin poltica y cultural de la regin. Cada etapa de la evolucin de Asia se abordar a partir del
recuento de los principales hechos histricos internos y de las relaciones internacionales de la regin junto
con la descripcin y problematizacin de los aspectos poltico-culturales de dicha evolucin
