¿QUÉ ES UN TRASPLANTE DE ÓRGANOS Y
TEJIDOS?
Un trasplante consiste en trasladar un órgano, tejido o un conjunto de células de una persona
(donante) a otra (receptor), o bien de una parte del cuerpo a otra en un mismo paciente. Es la
sustitución de un órgano o tejido que no funciona por otro que lo hace adecuadamente. Es
una técnica médica muy desarrollada que permite que muchas personas vivan o mejoren su
calidad de vida. Pero esto se puede lograr exclusivamente gracias a la existencia de
donantes. Los trasplantes sólo se realizan en hospitales autorizados.
¿CUALES SON LOS ÓRGANOS Y TEJIDOS QUE SE
PUEDEN TRASPLANTAR?

El trasplante puede ser:

1. Órganos: corazón, hígado, páncreas, riñón,


pulmón e intestino.

2. Tejidos: piel, huesos, segmentos vasculares,


córneas, medula ósea, válvulas cardiaca.

Los pacientes en lista de espera para el trasplante de


un riñón o páncreas poseen una alternativa
terapéutica al trasplante, la diálisis y la
administración exógena de insulina, respectivamente.
Sin embargo los pacientes en lista de espera de
trasplante de corazón, hígado o pulmón no tienen un
tratamiento alternativo, siendo el trasplante del
órgano lesionado su única solución para vivir.
¿QUIÉN PUEDE SER DONANTE DE
ÓRGANOS Y TEJIDOS?

En principio cualquier persona puede serlo. El DONANTE es una persona sin


enfermedad hepática, que acaba de fallecer a consecuencia de una lesión que le
ha provocado la muerte cerebral.

El diagnóstico de muerte cerebral es muy riguroso, requiere la comprobación y


la firma de tres médicos ajenos al trasplante. Tras el diagnóstico de la muerte
cerebral, los médicos que controlan al paciente fallecido, realizan una serie de
análisis urgentes para asegurar que el posible donante no tiene ninguna
enfermedad que pueda transmitir al receptor de sus órganos.

Una vez comprobadas la ausencia de enfermedades infecciosas y tumorales en el


fallecido, solicitan a su familia la autorización para realizar la donación de sus
órganos.
Si la familia acepta la donación el fallecido ya es un donante de órganos y se
procede a la extracción de los mismos.
TIPOS DE DONANTES

A. El donante cadáver: Obtenido a partir de pacientes


fallecidos. Es la forma más frecuente de obtener un órgano
en nuestro país. Para los donantes cadáver, la legislación
española expresa: que todos los ciudadanos españoles son
donantes potenciales, a no ser que en vida hayan expresado
su opinión contraria al respecto.

B. El donante vivo: Suele ser un familiar del paciente, que


decide de forma altruista realizar la donación. Debe superar
una serie de exámenes que le acrediten como donante válido,
no siempre se puede realizar e implica un riesgo para él
