Sandvik Rotary Tools has (4) four Materials and Reliability laboratories throughout the world, including
one located at our main drill string manufacturing facility in Santiago.These engineers are industry

Ultra Sonic Weld Inspection
 The integrity of the weld quality is

verified using the ultrasonic system
 This is a non-invasive inspection process,
utilizing sophisticated electronic
equipment and sound waves.
 This system allows us to check the weld
to detect imperfections like porosity,
cracks, weak fusions, debris, etc.
 Ultrasonic inspections allow us to
guarantee that 100% of our welded
products will reach our clients in
optimal conditions.

Hydraulic Press
 Specifically designed for the

straightening of pipes and bars.
 Piston slides along 14.5 meter long

bench, and is able to generate a pressure
of 200 tons.
 Tubes allowed to be rotated, in order to

insure proper straightness.
 All tubes are checked 100%.

Submerged Arc Welder
 Our submerged arc welding process is three to ten
times faster than conventional.
 Automatic welding procedure with highest quality.
 Advantages:
− No emitted brightness as compared to the electric arc
− No emission of metallic fumes
− Application of successive threads; no need for breaks
− High speed supply
− No emission of incandescent particles
− The flux utilized may be active and contribute alloying elements to
the fusion pool.
 All of the above guarantees that welding process is of
the highest quality.

 Computer numerical control lathes

 These machines are computer assisted,
programmed machines for the precise
cutting and turning of all types of parts.
 Precise tolerance control and superior
surface finishes are insured.
 Spindle bore lathes are used for

 The Krugersdorp factory has been in operation for more than 60 years
 Main products produced in the Krugersdorp factory are:

– Drill Pipes for surface mining
 Factory has its own Laboratory and Heat Treatment Department with long
experience and strong support from Sandviks global R&D organization.

 Production is based on same technique as in Sandvik factory in Santiago,
