PLACENTACIÓN COMPARADA
Este proceso, por el cual el embrión sale del lumen uterino, se conoce como
implantación. En animales domésticos, sin embargo, el embrión permanece
unido a La superficie endometrial interna durante la gestación y, excepto en
los carnívoros, la placentación no es invasiva.

Los cerdos emplean otra estrategia para interrumpir la vía luteolítica. Aunque
la oxitocina también es producida por los cuerpos lúteos en el cerdo y
promueve la síntesis de PGF2α endometrial, los embriones de cerdo
previenen la luteólisis de manera diferente. El estradiol se produce a partir
de su trofoectodermo alrededor de los días 11 a 12 de desarrollo, lo que hace
que se secrete PGF2α hacia la luz uterina en lugar de hacia el torrente
sanguíneo materno. En la luz, PGF2α se degrada rápidamente. Además de
cambiar la secreción de PGF2α de endocrina (a la circulación materna) a
exocrina (a la luz uterina), también se cree que el estradiol estimula la
contracción miometrial facilitando la distribución de embriones dentro de los
cuernos uterinos muy largos. Se ha demostrado que al menos cuatro
embriones deben estar presentes para evitar la luteólisis en el cerdo.
CLASIFICACIÓN DE LA PLACENTA
Existen enormes diferencias entre las especies con respecto a cómo se inicia
la placentación y, en consecuencia, cómo se desarrolla su arquitectura final.
A lo largo de los años, se han propuesto muchos esquemas de clasificación
diferentes para la placenta, basados en una variedad de criterios. Un
esquema se basa en la naturaleza del tejido extraembrionario que contribuye
a la placenta, lo que hace que las placentas se clasifiquen como coriovitelina
o corioalantoidea. En la placenta coriovitelina, la pared del saco vitelino se
combina localmente con el corion para formar un área de intercambio (fig. 9-
1). En animales domésticos, una placenta coriovitelina funcional se ve solo en

Caballos:
aumento del tono uterino que fija el embrión en la base de uno de los
