Abstract
The present work deals, from the perspective of F. van Eemeren and
R. Grootendorst's Pragmadialectical Theory, with the analysis and
evaluation of the argumentative text in English , in particular of its
argumentative phase, written by university students. Th is article is
based on a majar research conducted by the author which shows that
many university students of English do not use all types of points of

there are preferences for sorne over the others in number and

means of the author's lntegrated Proposal, which uses elements from
each of the aforementioned theories and puts emphasis on the relation
established between the view point and the arguments supporting it
(argumentativa scheme) and on the graphical representation of the

Y es verdad de X.
porque: Y es verdad de Z,
y: Z es comparable a X.
Ejemplo:
divertirse frecuentemente.
Aplicación del esquema:
Argumento:
y: Z conduce a Y.

SURVEY OF INFORMATION
ll is known that many young adults and adolescenls take stimulants befare
going out te dance en Friday or Saturday evenings. The type they take varies
from mild enes, llke Cake and asplrins taken togelher, lo more dangerous
ones like alcoholic drinks mixed with stimulants or even drugs. This behaviour
ralses risks for the person who does it -for the consequences for their
health- as well as their fellow human beings -as they may gel involved in
fights, accidents, etc.
A group of young people's parents have formed a commlttee (Y.P .P.C.) te
try to reverse this situation. They would like te know your opinion on this
issue, supported by arguments, in order to understand the situation and
device a program to create conscience against this dangerous behaviour.
Please write a text expressing what you think about this issue, supporting it
with arguments for or against it. (You will have 90 minutes todo so.}
The texts you produce will be sent. to, and read, by the members of
Young People's Parents Committee (Y.P.P.C.).
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COOPERATION!ll
