Introduction
These installation instructions contain important information on the installation, functioning, maintenance and storage of VETEC
valves. The control valves are supplied according to customer specification, complete with actuator and accessories. The valves
comply with the European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC.
Intended use
VETEC control valves are sized individually according to the specific operating conditions provided by the customer, such as
process medium, operating pressure and operating temperature.
The limits of application for DVGW valves concerning the process medium, operating pressure, operating temperature and supply
pressure are given on the nameplate.
Make sure the valves are used as intended.
If the valves are to be used under deviating operating conditions, contact VETEC Ventiltechnik GmbH to make sure that the valves
are suitable for the requirements. Failure to check the valves' suitability for deviating conditions can lead to malfunctions and pose a
considerable danger to persons, goods and the environment.
An insufficient cross-section of the supply air line or an insufficient supply pressure impair the valves' control response or proper
functioning. An excessive supply pressure can damage the actuator and accessories.
Shut off, drain and vent the respective pipe section according to the operator's instructions before installing or removing the valves.
Pressure-test the pipeline before installing the valves.

Actuator
Make sure the pipeline is free of any residue (e.g. weld spatter, metal chips, tools etc.). Remove any foreign particles. Make sure
the valves are mounted free of stress and not exposed to excessive vibration.
If the actuators require support in the pipeline, observe the permissible locations. The permissible locations and weights for support
are detailed in the VETEC regulations. Do not use the piping and control equipment as support or to suspend valves during
transport; do not step on the piping and control equipment to prevent damage.
Subject all valves taken from stock to safety, functional and leak tests before use.
Failure to follow the instructions properly can lead to malfunctions and pose a considerable danger to persons, goods and the
environment.
Operation
The control valves, as parts of the plant, are to be operated according to the operator's instructions and regulations. Unstable
control causes increased wear. Contaminated supply air (e.g. with oil, water, dirt) or auxiliary energy and signals not according to
specifications can cause the accessories or the entire control valve to malfunction or fail. Protect the valves against impermissible
internal or external stress during operation.
The operator must make sure that the valves' permissible pressure and temperature limits are not exceeded due to a thermal
expansion of the process medium.
Wear and corrosion may make it necessary to check the wall thickness of the valve bodies at regular intervals. The minimum
required wall thickness is calculated and specified by VETEC.
Marking
The valves have a nameplate. The nameplate is attached to the actuator or, for deliveries without actuator, to the valve's connecting
flange.
Conformity with the European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC is documented by the CE marking on the nameplates.
Exception: valves according to 97/23/EC, Article 3, Paragraph 3 (good engineering practice).
The valve and actuator types, nominal size, nominal pressure, serial number, order number etc. are specified on the nameplate.

Use only the predefined locations to suspend the control valves during transport. Control lines,
accessories as well as other components with fail-safe function must not be used as
suspensions for transport.
The plug may expand During the heating-up period, the heat is distributed rather unevenly across
due to heat exposure. the valve. The components expand differently. As a result, the plug can get
jammed in the seat ring (see drawing).

The valve can be opened by the specified angle using the actuator or
additionally mounted travel stops on the actuator.
Electrostatic discharge
Electrostatic charging may occur on the valve bodies during operation in the plant, particularly on valves with insulation. As a result, include a
ground connection as a safety measure.
Attention!
The threaded area must
be free of paint.

1.01 Remove the valve from the pipeline. Also remove accessories (positioner, solenoid valves etc.).
Secure the valve so that it does not tip or tilt uncontrollably.
Pressurize the actuator to release the compression on the plug (if applicable). Remove the bolts
for the bracket. Remove the actuator and fastening bracket.
1.03 Remove the packing flange (pos. 641) and pull the
packing bushing (pos. 640) out of the packing chamber.
Then completely pull the packing bushing and its flange
off the shaft.
Remove the studs (pos. 647).
1.04 Position the body such that the trunnion bearing (pos
400) can be removed.
Remove the bolts (pos. 402) from the trunnion
bearing (pos. 400).
Note! For type 73.3/7 do not reuse the extension
bolts!
1.06 Unscrew the bolt (pos. 101) that secures the shaft and
remove the seal (pos 102).
Note! If the bolt will not be removed, the shaft will
be irreparable damaged.
1.07 Push the shaft out of the plug toothing, for example by
using a rod which is guided through the trunnion-
bearing bore.
Note! Do not damage the internal parts (bearing
bushing, inside of the body and plug).
Note! If the shaft will be re-used it is important to
mark the position of the shaft and the plug to each
other, for example by marking the shaft with a scriber
so that the marking won’t be erased when the shaft is
cleaned.
1.09 Pull the shaft (pos. 300) and packing parts out of the
body.
1.12 Position the body such that the seat-trim (pos. 500,
501, 502, 503, 504) can be removed.
Unscrew the seat holder (pos 501) using a special tool
(refer to BN 004.092).
1.13 Remove the seat ring (pos 500) and seal or shim (if
applicable pos 502, 503, 504).
Note! Probably the seat holder has to be replaced
if the sealing surface is damaged. Decide it after
expertise of the sealing surface.

2.03 Clean the shaft. The shaft must be shiny and free of
score marks or edges in the packing area.
Check the shaft and rework it (if necessary) to ensure
that the specified tolerances, fit and surface finishes are
complied with. Refer to 2.05 for specifications.
Note! Do not remove the marking bore on the shaft.
2.04 Make sure that there are no sharp edges at the end of
the shaft so that the packing rings and o-rings (if
applicable) can be mounted later.
If there are components to replace use only new parts. Don’t mount used packing rings, gaskets and O- rings.
Lubricate all threads and friction surfaces with anti-welding lubricating paste, before assembly.
Lubricate all other surfaces with multi-purpose grease, to facilitate the assembly.
Check that all greases and lubricants meet the requirements for pressure, temperature and medium
compatibility.
3.01 Note! If a new shaft (pos. 300) is used, the press fit
between shaft and plug has to be adjusted before
installing plug and shaft within the valve. Therefore the
toothing of the shaft has to be driven into the toothing
of the plug with a hammer or a pressing device. During
adjusting shaft and plug it is most important to support
the plug as shown in the picture. If the plug is not
supported it will be vitally damaged!
Note! It is important to mark the position of the shaft
and the plug to each other, for example by marking the
shaft with a scriber
Note! It is very important to attend to the correct
position of shaft and plug to each other as shown in the
following descriptions.
Plug Cap
3.04 Insert the new seal (pos. 401) for the trunnion bearing.
Note! For Type 73. The trunnion bearing is
provided with a sealing lens.
3.05 The Plug (pos. 200) should slide easily from shaft (pos.
300).
If it does not, press the shaft out of the plug with a rod
which is guided through the plug bore.
3.06 Insert the plug (pos. 200) into the body using a rotary
motion.
Note! The plug splines must face the bushing (pos.
303).
3.07 Hold the plug (pos. 200) in position so that the trunnion
bearing (pos. 400) can be inserted through the valve
body into the plug bore.
.
Note! The trunnion bearing for type 73 is provided
with a sealing lens.
3.08 Attach the trunnion bearing (pos. 400) to the valve body
with the bolts (402).
3.09 Press the bushing (pos. 303) into the valve body using
the VETEC bushing tool (according to BN004.092).
Note! Do not tilt the bushing!
3.11 Insert the split ring (pos. 306) into the recess of the
shaft using suitable grease to keep ring in place during
installation
3.14
3.16 Install the packing parts into the valve body using the
following sequence (for standard packing):
spacer (pos. 623), lubricating bushing (601), one
packing ring (pos. 620), 3 packing cords (pos. 621) and
then 1 packing ring (pos.620).
3.19 Install the flange nuts (647) and tighten evenly until the
packing is compressed.
For details on the compression of the packing refer to
order related packing drawing.
If packing leak is detected during testing, slowly and
evenly tighten the flange nuts a little more, continue to
tighten flange nuts until no leak is detected.
3.20 Place the body (pos. 100) into a position so that the
seat ring can be mounted.
Note! Do not damage flange surface on opposite
side of the valve.
3.22 Insert the seat ring (pos. 500) into the valve body.
3.23 Make sure that the sealing surfaces between seat and
plug match exactly.
Before the seat can be properly aligned check plug and
seat for any gaps (A / B) as follows
Turn the plug into the seat ring while using the shaft –
3.24 valve position closed. If necessary turn the shaft with a
suitable lever or, depending on the shaft type, use a
wrench.
On the sealing surface you can see the centre.
Otherwise measure the plug to find the center and
mark a dot on very center of the plug using a small
marker.
There is no need to make any correction if you see in
closed position of valve that the center of the plug is
slightly left warded in off-centre position (see fig. 3.24)
If the seat ring does not tip while you press it against

If the plug moves eccentrically to the right (view ahead
on the plug from the right to the center) there is a gap
between plug and seat ring.
3.27 There must be no gap "B" between the plug and the
sealing surface of the seat ring.
If a gap “B” exists, the sealing surface of the seat ring
must be machined to size on lathe.
3.29 Screw in the seat retainer (501) which holds the seat
ring but don’t tighten it yet so that the seat ring can be
aligned to the plug.
3.30 Now turn the shaft with the plug into the sealing surface
several times so that the seat ring gets positioned
centrically.
3.31 Tighten the seat retainer (501) while pressing the plug
into the seat's sealing surface so that the seat ring
remains centrically to the plug.
For tightening torques refer to BN004.229.
3.32 Secure the valve so that it does not tip or tilt uncontrollably. Pressurize the actuator to establish
the compression on the plug (only if compression cannot be adjusted subsequently). Mount the
actuator and fastening bracket. Tighten the bolts for the actuator bracket. Mount the accessories
(positioner, solenoid valves etc.). Install the valve into the pipeline.
! Final Inspection !
After assembly, leak-test the packing using a suitable test method. Also test the tight shut-off between seat
and plug. Test the proper functioning with all accessories mounted.
Note!
Observe the general operating and safety instructions (BN 004.095) for
mounting and maintenance.
Note! When replacing components, make sure also to replace all packing rings, packing cords, seals
and o-rings with new parts.
Check that all greases and lubricants meet the requirements for pressure, temperature and medium
compatibility.

Lubricate all threads and friction surfaces with anti-welding lubricating paste, before assembly.
Lubricate all other surfaces with multi-purpose grease, to facilitate the assembly.
3.01 If a new shaft (300) is used it must be mated with the plug
(200) assembly. This is done by aligning the shaft splines
with the internal splines of the plug.
Using a pressing device (or soft blow hammer), drive shaft
into plug (see fig.3.01).
3.02
Note! Shafts for R and M-
actuators only.
3.03
Note! All shafts (Type AT) with marking dimples.
3.05 Press the bushing (303) into the valve body using the
VETEC bushing tool (refer to BN004.092).
3.06 Insert the plug into the body using a rotary motion.
3.08 Hold the plug in position so that the trunnion bearing (400)
can be inserted through the valve body into the plug bore.
3.09 Attach the trunnion bearing (400) to the valve body with
the bolts (402).
Do not completely tighten the bolts.
3.10 Install the spacer (308) onto the shaft using suitable
grease to keep washer in place during installation.
3.11
Note! If the previous shaft is re-used, pay attention
to the marking on the shaft which was applied before dis-
mounting the shaft. Install the shaft in exact orientation as
disassembled.
Install the shaft (300) together with the washer (308) into
the valve body and through the splines of the plug.
For correct placing of the shaft in relation with the plug cap
refere to step 3.02 and 3.03.

(310) and the spring washer (311).
For tightening torques refer to BN 004.229.
3.12 Install the packing parts into the valve body using the fol-
lowing sequence (standard packing):
guide ring (307)(cup of guide ring must face down toward
valve body), spacer (623) lubricating bushing (601), one
packing ring (620), three packing cords (621) and one
packing ring (620)
When installing, use the VETEC packing tool
(BN 004.092) to push the packing ringss into the valve
body.
3.14 Install the flange nuts (647) and tighten evenly until the
packing is compressed. For details on the compression of
the packing refer to order related packing drawing.
3.15 Place the body in to a position that the seat ring can be
mounted.
3.17 Make sure that the sealing surfaces between seat and
A plug match exactly.
Before the seat can be properly aligned check plug and
seat for any gaps (A / B) as follows:
B
3.18 Turn the plug into the seat ring while using the shaft –
valve position closed. If necessary turn the shaft with a
suitable lever or, depending on the shaft type, use a
wrench.
On the sealing surface you can see the centre. Otherwise
measure the plug to find the centre. Mark a dot on very
centre of the plug using a small marker.
There is no need to make any correction if you see in
closed position of valve that the centre of the plug is slight-
ly left warded in off-centre position (see fig. 3.18) If the
seat ring does not tip while you press it against the support
of the body the seat position is correct
3.19 If the seat ring tips while pressing it against the support of
the body there is a need to correct the gap “A” between
seat ring and support surface of the body (fig. 3.19). If the
gap “A” is between 0,1 and 0,3 you can underlay with up to
2 shim rings (502/503).
If the seat ring is still tipping although it is underlayed with
shim rings , then the gap „A“ is more than 0,4 mm and you
can correct it with a gasket (504).
3.20
For bodies made of special materials do not use shim
rings but only gaskets.
3.23 There must be no gap "B" between the plug and the seal-
ing surface of the seat ring.
If a gap “B” exists, the sealing surface of the seat ring must
be machined to size on lathe.
3.25 Srew in the seat retainer (501) which holds the seat ring
but don’t tighten it yet so that the seat ring can be aligned
to the plug.
3.26 Now turn the shaft with the plug into the sealing surface
several times so that the seatring gets positioned centrical-
ly.
3.27 Tighten the seat retainer (501) while pressing the plug into
the seat's sealing surface so that the seat ring remains
centrically to the plug.
For tightening torques refer to BN 004.229.
3.29 Make sure that the sealing surfaces between seat and
plug match exactly.
Before the seat can be properly aligned check plug and
seat for any gaps (A / B) as described in steps 3.18 to 3.24
3.30 Screw in the bolts (507) of the seat ring but don’t tighten
them yet so that the seatring can be aligned to the plug.
Now slide the seat ring against the closing direction. Tight-
en the 4 screws as shown in the figure minimal, so that the
seat ring can be aligned.
Turn the shaft with the plug into the sealing surface so that
the seatring gets positioned centrically.
3.31 Tighten evenly the bolts (507) of the seat ring while press-
ing the plug into the seat's sealing surface so that the seat
ring remains centrically to the plug.
