ABSTRACT
When a physical activity program is oriented to burn body fat, it is crucial to know
and to handle the factors that can increase or reduce the fat oxidation during
exercise. In the present study, the scientific evidence about nutritional factors that
influence the fat oxidation during exercise is reviewed, focused to identify the best
nutritional strategy to get with a training program, the maximal body fat reduction.
To achieve a maximal fat oxidation during an exercise session it is recommended to
design balanced feeding plans, with a moderate carbohydrate restriction, to avoid
carbohydrates ingestion within the 3 previous hours to the exercise, use low
glycemic index pre-exercise meal and to avoid carbohydrates intake during low
intensity exercise.
